i think you guys are making a mistake thinking of this as technology that's success depends on consumer vanity or recreation sales. if someone can make a lightweight device that can even half convincingly render 3d objects in real life every industry will adopt it, even reluctant ones will adopt it to stay competitive. i'm not a technological optimist, i just don't think it's avoidable.

not too long from now kids will wonder why anyone would want to hold a computer in their hand.
