The first Traxman track was decent, but most of the rest were truly awful. Machinedrum decimates.

Yeah a lot of aspects of Juke / Footwork are very annoying and amateurish (though good Footworks needs to sound amateurish and natural, like good Jungle needs to for example). But: The tempo, the beats, the samples, the typicial way they chop up samples, the over-all feeling - I like that a lot. So I'm very happy for people like Machinedrum who use the cool elements from Juke and fuse them with more listenable music.

I still don't get it. I gues I am getting very old.

I recited that once to my roommate and he swears I imitated the computer sound exactly. I couldn't do it again, to his disappointment. Also, I think he was stoned.

i still feel like 'Room's by machinedrum still blows this stuff away because it doesnt rely on 808 overload. The rapid fire 808 hihat sound got old 5 minutes after it came out of the gates with both cylinders firing. If you like that sound im happy for you, but it would be nice if there was less of that cheap stuff in it

The problem for me isnt the 808 drums, it's the fact that its the same 808 samples.

 

this is also true, one of the only guys i've heard trying to make footwork on with actual analog drums is DJ stingray, but i didnt particularly like his results

 

I dont really consider Machinedrum to be making footwork etc if Im honest, but I get what you mean about the 808 overload...

 

I try and make footwork, but I dont want to just replicate what I hear too much, plus with an 808 its a ball ache to make well sequenced patterns that arent just one bar loops etc.

 

There are lots of footwork tracks that avoid the 808 altogether, but most of the time, when you hear footwork it's attached to the same few names ( Rashad/Spinn/Traxman etc) so whatever samples they use, are what you end up hearing... (I believe I saw/read rashad saying he got his 808 samples from the roland r70)

i thought i hated footwork and juke cause i heard dj nate (ima burn him rules, but the rest is really awful), but there are some good tracks out there. still there will be random kids out there white knighting the shittily done stuff because it's so fuckin legit etc., but it still sucks.

umm yeah. maybe i didn't find the right words, but i mean, jungle should not sound very clean, overly compressed or digital (like for example a lot of modern day uk bass music should sound cause it really fits). jungle takes a sweaty, dark, somehow amateurish or natural room, and the room footwork / juke stuff takes is somewhat similiar in my opinion. so for example this vocal samples chopping up is not meant to sound IDM, digital or very clever, it is meant to sound amateurish and natural. mhh i hope i made my point more clear and is it not total bullshit
