By the way, I'd strongly recommend The Artist.

I went to see War Horse last week, but ended up seeing The Artist instead and I'm 100% certain that I saw the better film. War Horse is almost three-fucking-hours long, but The Artist was funny, clever, fresh and confident.

Fresh is the keyword. It was exhilarating to not be looked down upon by a film. Not be taken for a complete idiot... or to be painted under such broad strokes with the intent of filling seats.

There were some pretty obvious visual clues (sometimes roadsigns and posters in the background will let you know the theme of a scene), but for the majority of The Artist you're required to analyse what you're seeing and infer as much meaning as possible for your own enjoyment.
