I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

This topic is really bringing me back to my metal days... Back in the day I'd always just throw on Altars by Morbid Angel if everything else seemed unworthy...

But nowadays I try to unwind my ears with old jazz records... especially jazz guitar. Also, I need to go spin Peaches en Regalia, thanks for the reminder...

You know how it goes. Get in a wave of listening to a bunch of new music. Start feeling real hyped about a new artist or sound etc. Then you go and throw on ___________ and suddenly all the new stuff feels trivial.

For me Tri Repetae and Ae in general. I love me some new music but yeah....sorry kids.

I'm not sure about the legitimacy of this mindset. Of course the old stuff that you've spent years forming a connection with will elicit more amazing feelings than recent releases! Not trying to shoot this whole topic down but just thought I'd put that out there.

Miocene - A Perfect Life with a View of the Swamp

Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Portishead - Third

Sigur Ros - ( )

Converge - Jane Doe

Aphex Twin - SAW2

Autechre - Amber (which is interesting to me, it's not my favorite of theirs), or, just Sublimit alone works sometimes

this list overlaps with my top 10 list quite a bit. just 'perfect' albums, they all have a cleansing, perspective-forcing effect.
