I take issue with the term "Drum'n'bass single".

They are 12"s. "Single" implies they are a cut off an LP, released to attract attention for the full-length release.

Also. We have 3 other threads like this, but too much jungle is never possible.

The link I had has a pink-ish cover with the gangster tag-style cartoon. That artwork basically is what SK1 & Soundmurderer used as their singular inspiration for every Rewind Records 12".

Talk about best DNB 12"s. Every Rewind 12" is a fucking solid gold game-changer.

I actually agree. Kind of egotistical for him to call his own music timeless. But I love that song and whole release.

Yah, another vote for Photek's Ni Ten Ichi Ryu, if I were maybe forced to choose a "best" drum n bass single at gunpoint.

There are tooons of classic and great dnb/jungle tracks, no doubt. But if you recall the general vibe of most drum n bass during mid-90's to early 00, even the good stuff was somewhat just sidetracked evolutionary stuff (like everything dnb was Goldie, LTJ Bukem, 4 Hero kinda vibe, etc.). Still good- even great!- but a lot of tracks felt like each other. Most tracks felt like they came from the same stylistic world.

Theeen enter Photek's Ni Ten Ichi Ryu. He was working on his signature splice style a few years before, but it wasn't until this period where everything crystallized (and was never returned to). Photek found the perfect balance of minimalism and ambient vibez, mixed with a hard hit and gentle shuffle splice style that gave a sense of slow motion and fast motion simultaneously; a kind of concept that wouldn't be heavily experimented with until later incarnations of dub step. So with the title "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu" ("two heavens as one"), I believe he used it as a direct description of what he discovered he had achieved with the track-- a perfect harmony of opposing stylistic elements. Some hardcore yin-yang lazer shit, mang.

Photek was totally onto some next-level shit; so much so, that Ni Ten Ichi Ryu is still stylistically fresh nearly 20 years later.

I was a bit more into the trip hop end of d&b - which a lot of ppl seem to hate. love this one tho.
