I'm pretty sure this photo was from '94, if not then '95. My 16th or 17th birthday party.post-5610-0-30040700-1331425174_thumb.jpg

I was heavily into industrial music and was probably playing a lot of Mortal Kombat II. Notable releases for music were Frontline Assembly - Millennium, Delerium - Spheres II, Pigface - Notes From thee Underground, Die Warzau - Engine, Pop Will Eat Itself - Dos Dedos Mis Amigos, anf of course NIN - The Downward Spiral came out that year.

^Whoa that smoking kid is hard as fuck.

Christmas '94 I was 10 and my life revolved around this bad boy:

I loved it so goddamn much.

It was amazing. My space colony was eventually raised off the ground, the monorail provided a usually safe means for space marines to get to ground level to do battle while looking for rare minerals and to take the wounded back to sickbay. It was a cold desolate existence, a frontier where men were men and life was often short but full.

Ironically that smoking kid would later be the guy we would always have to leave parties with in a hurry because he beat up some dude with a rake or something. I was in a car he flipped when driving because he was swerving for no reason, and I think he was dealing with some assault charge as recently as a year or two ago.

my intro to dnb was photek, source direct n reprazent... love this stuff now though... first cd was synthesizer greatest compilation :) .... and we never celebrated xmas xcept for the tree and lighting.. always sinterklaas which is a bit earlier.. nowadays kids celebrate both, but 20 yrs ago it was hardcore. sort of.

I regret hooking my computer up to the receiver in 1997 with Rebirth and VAZ and blowing it up; how could the engineers at Pioneer have anticipated an 808/squarewave assault in 1977?

Still got one of these which still works. With the right set up it sounds amazing, but like BCM said it's got a fair bit of volume to it which is really difficult to control (especially now it's aged a bit the volume dial needs to be put halfway to get an equal balance on the left and right channel and that's far too loud to play normally, so you've gotta spend forever mucking about with the balance dial). Seeing this here makes me sort of regret buying a pair of active monitor speakers and putting it in the loft. Might have to dig it out again when I get the chance.

Oh shit I know what blew up my Xmas in '94 - my friend getting Sega Channel at the place he was renting. 1995 was a year spent firmly entrenched on his sofa blazing many many many many joints, and crying when Ecco died.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

After years of knocking around on dual cassette + CD boomboxes and Walkmen, I got my first proper hi-fi for Christmas '94. The concept of a 5 disc changer brings lols now. I asked my mum every fucking year for a mr frosty slushy maker but never got one. it was only about 10 quid from argos but she was always so house proud that she couldnt stand the mess it might make. pretty lame reason. i have resentment.

christmas 1994 was the year that I'm pretty sure I got my first guitar and amp. I was 13.

the guitar was a Cort, which was a fake gibson les paul. it wailed and as I was in the habit of finding my christmas presents early I had already taught myself how to play most of nirvana's nevermind album and surprised my parents. I would play it for like hours and hours after everybody was asleep.

that was a period in my life where I was completely and utterly obsessed with music (i got a drum kit too the year after i think) because

1. i didn't do homework,

2. there was no internet other than dial-up so i didnt waste time like i do now,

3. i wasn't into girls yet,

4. i had moderately bad acne and was embarrassed to leave home some days,

5. I think it was an escape from an objectively great life that I perceived as super shitty for some reason.

I mostly played smashing pumpkins and tool on REPEAT for like 2 years. and I still have that guitar although the switch is broken, and the front pickup doesnt work.

Not a million miles from the deck I've got now. Don't know if anyone rates TEAC, but I love them.

That's badass! I used to drool over that same set in the Lego catalog I had. I did get this though...

Lego sets are the one thing my parents still keep stored at their house. I'm sure one of my kids will put it back together one day.
