LUDD, you shouldn't have deleted your comment (luckily, I can read all deleted posts- wooh!) because what you wrote was absolutely true. Listening to music and listening to details in a specific genre you're trying to recreate is pretty damn important.

@StephenG

You're asking what counts the snares, hihats etc. typically fall on and then you tell us not every song is the same(?). Use your ears. They are your main tools.

Listening to some squarepusher right now with my earholes, I'll recreate it later tonight. :cerious:

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

I know what you're saying mr Squee, and I'm using my ears etc I am good at that.

Now I want to learn more of the scientific side of the programming, IE the timings and better ways to use oscillators etc.

That is what this thread is supposed to be about.

If it was easy as using our ears everyone would be Aphex Twin by now.

don't feed the troll people.

"which steps to my kicks and snares go on?..." I mean come on...

Not my fault everyone is taking that literally. I don't literally mean theres a specific formula for drum n bass music and I want to know what counts to put everything on.

There are techniques for making your beats bouncy, drawn out, etc of which the different formulations/counts of your beats is obviously integral. Just looking for some tips from other watmmers.

Seems like a fairly honest topic

The scientific side of programming beats? There's no real science behind it (which might be why some people call it beatfuckery).

My advice to you (and this is serious) would be: Less talking, more action. Once you've made something, listen to it, then let someone else listen to it, and then let us listen to it. Get feedback, learn from it, and learn from your mistakes. And don't get offended it people don't like, and then tell them 'well fuck you, I'll show you' and then make something better.

Iterative process, man!

Wouldn't you rather get hands on experience with making music instead of having someone tell you what to do? It will feel a lot more rewarding figuring these things out for yourself.

Practice makes perfect.

Blam. Sound advice that I need to follow too.
