seeing as their last release was the first to feature a remix I'm not really sure what this means.. i hope they are not having problems filling out their own releases now. don't get me wrong i think david did a good job.

hopefully this signals a return to their techno influences... maybe they'll get B12 on board for a remix as well which i think could be the most epic thing to ever happen since 1998.

Perhaps it's just the pessimist in me, but I reckon the remix is for an upcoming WARP compilation

Another one? i really doubt it, unless they want bands like My Best Friend to do remakes of Aphex Twin songs.

Come to think of it, since the WARP 20 celebration, WARP hasn't released any compilations or samplers...

They released a compilation in 2010, but yeah...I dunno. Is there any need to release compilations anymore? On CD at least...

edit: it wasn't released in 2010, just called 2010. but was definitely released after Warp 20

I thought the Warp 2010 comp was supposed to be a preview for stuff that was going to come out in 2010 (like Sheep and FUSE) but then FlyLo never released anything with Quakes on it. So I'm a bit confused.

It's only two bucks on iTunes by the way.

yeah, those sorts of comps. don't really count. they're just samplers/tasters.

what i was on about before was a proper 'BoC remixed by blah blah blah' release comp. 1 of them. EP or album.

not some kind of Warp promo comp. a proper BoC release. ya get me?

yeah I get ya, like the NIN remix albums.

it's a dated format that was barely relevant back then, even less so now.

but if Boards of Canada have no new material to release, I suppose it keeps royalties trickling in.

well, who says Warp are even relevant anyway? y'know? why wouldn't they do a remix album?

and Black Dog love their remix EP's/releases. they put them out with almost every new release of theirs.

because it spreads the word and keeps their name bouncing around out there, plus the monies trickling in.

and those freebie samplers are not proper compilations.

that particular compilation was actually sold, for cost. I know they bundled it with some orders during the latter of 2009 / beginning of 2010, but Warp have bundled actual proper releases with orders in the past too...an ex of mine got Girl/Boy EP bundled with an order once. So you can't go using that as an excuse not to call it a compilation. By definition of what it is, it is a compilation of tracks by various artists.

As for the pertinent discussion...I know tBD like doing remixes, I've bought a few of them myself (both the EPs of their material that has been remixed by someone else, and the odd one here and there that they've remixed). It still seems kind of out of character for BoC / Warp to have a compilation of remixes devoted to one particular artist. Certainly out of character for BoC....as for Warp, I can't really remember if they've ever done a whole EP of other people's remixes of one particular artist.

how many people have ever remixed BoC ? isn't it "out of character" for them to want or agree to remixes anyway?

especially The Black Dog, when they both must know that Ken slagged them off for ages! calling them a "Bag of Shite". lol

and i s'pose if that comp. was sold, then it's more of a proper comp. (in my eyes).

was the 'Wif of 2003' freebie-comp. sold, too? i can't even remember...

but they probably decided to make it available on Bleep, later.. for a couple of quid or something. - Warp!

The WiFO 2003 was released on CD, but not commercially sold - given away with orders. Still one of their best freebies.

My favourite Mark Bell song is "A Salute To Those Who Say Fuck You" on the WAP100 compilation.

Besides LFO's "Freak", it's a personal favourite of mine, especially how it ends the compilation - that slight echo he puts on the squawky synth he uses is just magical to me.

yeah, he does squawky synth lines very well...

good melodies.

It's been a while. What's happened with this? Did it go anywhere? Did the Black Dog tweet about their status with the remix (e.g., "Finished the remix for BoC!")? Does anyone know what this remix is for? Is it for a new album? A box set? A sampler or compilation? Was TBD pulling everyone's collective leg? Did they think it would be funny to post that in light of the Facebook "yes" fiasco? Does anyone else out there give a flying fuck about this besides me? Am I going crazy with anticipation? Do I ask too many fucking questions? Should I PM mdg about the possibility of a BoC/TBD collaboration? Should I mail a handwritten letter asking all of these things to hexagon sun? Should I start a new thread about some shit I just made up about it? What do you guys think? Do you think that the information will be on their official website tomorrow?

Been thinking about this myself. My answer? I am beyond giving a fuck. Yeah I think about it. Yes I would buy it the instant it dropped. Yes it would make me happy. But beyond those dimensions and thinking further about it? Nahh, no thanks.

there is no remix and there never was.

it was just somebody's way of getting some free publicity and cause a stir. a bit like tagging but on a bigger scale.

that is all.

it worked, too. haha. well done that man.

nothing to see-hear. :)

In case my over-the-top questioning wasn't clear enough, I was somewhat joking. I am interested to know whether anyone has any information about TBD's claim that they're doing a remix, but it's not that big of a deal to me. I guess the answer is, as sirch claims, there never was such a thing, and it was a publicity stunt. I suspected as much, really.
