Had lessons from an early age on piano, we played recorder in 5th grade choir but I ended up teaching myself most of the notes, and I played Clarinet from 5th Grade through my first year of college, but have since not been in band or felt the need to play it. Kind of sad because I was really damn good at it. I always chose the highest level solos for solo contests and got high scores.

I think my girlfriend currently has my clarinet, because hers is a piece of shit.

Accordion will be self taught. Lessons are pretty nice because it keeps you on a schedule.

I've forgotten so much re: theory because of disuse. Not that I didn't want to use it, but life got in the way.

I have to approach things more intuitively now.

with the skin flute? it's easy to get rusty if you don't practice practice practice those fingerings.

Played the drums since 4th grade. Did marching band and all that throughout high school. I played the largest bass in the line freshman year, moved to quad-toms after that and had a set of quints for the next two years. Played the set in jazz/pep-band, but I haven't owned a set for quite a while.

I've always wanted to fucking wail on the quints in a parade. If I could do so whilst wearing just a denim vest and my drums were on fire, it would be simultaneously the gayest and most metal thing one could possibly do.

I'm primarily a bass player, but can also play guitar, keyboard instruments, percussion, and I also sing.

I taught myself how to play and read music, but I ended up going to music school for college later on.

jealous. this has been a dream of mine for a long time. one day I will have to commit to learning it.

as it is, I have not officially known how to play an instrument since 8th grade (trumpet) but I have taught myself to play keyboard decently. also, similar to others in the thread, I will try my hand at anything that I can get a sound out of, and try to learn it enough to get some good samples out of it. not so focused on this as I used to be though.

I took guitar lessons when I was 6, for about a year and then stopped playing until I was 10, where I taught myself how to play along to Shadows songs. I started getting into 'alternative' music so my dad showed me some power chords and I took it from there. My music tastes got pretty metal—it got to the point where I was playing along to Metallica every day after school when I was 15. I got pretty good at shredding, but by the time I was 16-17 I discovered electronic music and kinda abandoned the guitar, and started getting heavily into trackers and such. Didn't pick the guitar up again until I was 20, but by then it was for post-rock and other genres that don't require so much technical ability. Kinda kicking myself now because the kind of music I'm making now would really benefit from the skills I had when I was 15—I use a midi pickup on my guitar and I'd love to be able to play the leads that I've sequenced for my songs. I'm working on it but some of them just seem IMPOSSIBLE.
