foresense
the build quality of those things suck... at least, they are not exactly rugged.. I had one, and during a show the USB connector had snapped off the PCB.. thought I could fix it but there was literally a hole where the USB connector used to be affixed.. Guest iep
drill or get somebody to drill you a case and fit your knobs/sliders/whatever in it. custom builds are essential if you want to "get inspired". i'd go for a OSC interface instead of MIDI interface. ryancolecreate
Looks like Doepfer doesn't sell the actual boxes anymore, but they sell the "brain" from those still as an assembled PCB. You have to add the pots and or faders etc. Still a bit pricey though at $75. Not horrible. I'm tempted to build a slider box this summer :D It would be a more fun project though to build it from scratch on some microcontroller. kcinsu
I'm pretty sure you can make custom templates on the mackie C4 pro, so that the display shows the name of the knob, as well as the value etc. And you get the led around the knob as well. Looks like it's discontinued though. You'd have to ebay it. I'd say it's biggest downside is that the knobs dont move smoothly... you can feel clicks every time it increments to a new value. Good for when you are trying to accurately increment a value, but a little weird in all other situations. ryancolecreate
This summer I think I will try to build a midi box using 2 mouse track pads for x-y controllers, a bunch of sliders, and a button grid. Apparently the mousepads output serial data like a ps2 mouse so it's pretty easy to get it into some type of micro controller. I'd still love a launchpad though for Numerology. :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide ryancolecreate's signature Hide all signatures ------ dailyambient.com ------ New Ambient Music Every Day.
