lol pitchfork reviewed it

*stops liking rustie*

Have they ever reviewed an Essential mix, let alone throw it as the primary review of the day? That alone was kind of surprising, even for pitchfork.

It's all intertwined with their self-invented, self-congratulatory "maximalism" trend they've affixed to pitchfork-approved electronica of the moment. A couple of months ago they had a feature about the rise of "maximalist" artists like rustie and hudson mohawke and since then they've been like 12-year olds who just learned how to masturbate.

So yeah a rustie essential mix is basically a giant chair leg for pitchfork to rub up against

To be fair, that was a decent article by Simon Reynolds, a journalist who knows electronic music well. But I hear you, they always have artists or scenes they plug and hype, especially if it seems like their touting something "cutting-edge" - in this case Rustie and music of some of his peers.

thank you, you have put into plain English exactly what Pitchfork do.

They don't fully engage with electronic music and are always trying to find some intellectual "angle" to like things.

Pitchfork over-intellectualizes everything. Reading their website is like reading a phd thesis about something or other that I aint fucking interested in. They specialize in talking horseshit, end of story.

Anyway back to Lord Rustie's Esssssential Mix. Instead of writing never-ending anal codswallop and trying to prove how fucking clever I am I will say this mix is: Epic! No joking this mix is off the hook and lol at the day-glo howling wolf!!

Rustie you did a great job with this.

This is worth an offical release imo, they used to do essential mix cd's once-upon-a-time. I'd gladly pay for it.

Its been a long time since I last *really* enjoyed an essential mix. I used to actively collect them, got an external hard disc full of them, and at some point around 2007 I kinda gave up - too many hyped "hero of the moment" DJs / producer that meant that the mix was far from essential.

But every now and then there is a still a bit of gold in amongst the cheese.

Yeah this is really good. Quite astounding, and I have never been a mahoosive fan of Rustie.

It blew my socks off!! As we say in England :music:

listened. some good bits, but at the end of the day i don't get what all the fuss is about. with the mix or with Rustie in general. i don't get the hype and don't feel like it's anything that special at all really..? *confused shrugs*

i feel like it's (Rustie) all a bit too much 'day-glow stylin' over substance'.

i've tried to listen to it and get into it but i'm always left like meh and really underwhelmed and unimpressed.

i guess i might just be getting old... because i can't connect with it at all... lol

maybe if i was still 21, off my face on MDMA, gas, and super skunk and heard some Rustie in a club i might love it...

Lol... but isn't that what the 'Skins generation' kids of today are all doing, though? laughing gas, crazy hybridized strains of skunk, and MDMA? and really really terrible quality cocaine..? and shitloads of coffee?

no wonder some people are mega-hyped on the hyper-colour, 'maximalist' (maximalist? really?) Rustie sound.. lol
