It sounds IDM but IDM is not aphex twin

Yeah, I mean I never thought it sounded particularly AFX... just Warp-ey in general. At that time, Thom Yorke said he bought the whole Warp back catalogue (so we're talking up until 2000 here), & I can certainly hear bits of Autechre, Plaid & Squarepusher as well as AFX... albeit subtly.

They reached a peak with OK Computer, basically started over, and then reached some more peaks after that. Not too many bands do that. Optimistic through Motion Picture Soundtrack is a totally freaking sweet run of songs.

agreed. okc was a peak. then there was a left turn with kid a and [/i]amnesiac[/i] (the left turn that brought loadsa afx fans into the fold, and also introduced loadsa afx fans to radiohead).

then... it's weird, if you ignore hail to the thief (which is... kinda its own thing)... i might be wrong sorta predicts in rainbows and ESPECIALLY king of limbs (and the eraser etc)

edit: king of limbs was definitely a peak, though. give up the ghost is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. and yeah, the basement sessions are even better but it's apples and oranges, innit?

they seem to be a jam band now. a jam band with fucking loads of gadgets and an ability to use them. i think what radiohead are now is fucking fantastic. they are, to me, a band who are super-duper able to use whatever instrument or gadget that they decide to. and they're kinda relaxed about it too.

tl;dr radiohead seem to finally truly know their shit in every medium and finally seem to be happy about it as well.

Why doesn't anyone talk about Everything in its Right Place as one of the better tracks off of Kid A? Till this day, i feel that that song is one of the best openers i've ever heard. Its like a musical orgasm.

I like Amnesiac better too. But the song "Optimistic" from Kid A has one of the best main melodies evar.

The 8-Bit version of Kid A is pretty fun, too. Someone just shared that with me this morning, coincidentally.

yeah it's the best track. why they would create such a rhythmically intense and focussed opener and then dash all hopes when kid a comes on. Kid A's not a bad track it's just bizarrely sandwiched between everything and national anthem.

Aphex Twin Ripped off Radiohead, he says he doesn't like rock music, then how come "I care because you do" sounds exactly like Kid A? AFX listened to it and said "i can remove the vocals and con idm nerds".

He went forward in time, to troll the past...

...brilliant

I love this album, its my favorite radiohead album by far. It has a strong connection to fall colors and weather in my mind, probably because I used to pick and eat mushrooms during falltime (woodlovers) with the album as a soundtrack of sorts.

I would like motion picture soundtrack played at my funeral :)

incredible! The scanner bassline is wonderful and there are times when the hard-drives sound just like Thom; it's nuts!

Kid A is my favourite album of theirs by a long way (though there are later individual tracks I love more like Like Spinning Plates and Codex, its the one I love most as a whole). It came at a time where I was properly getting into music (and had a disposable income to do so) and I remember the stormy morning I headed down to Woolworths (RIP) to pick up my copy. Within just the first few seconds of track one I knew this album would be something special, and those few chords still give me goosebumps to this day.

That's 'cos they are indeed playing back his voice, there was a big hacking fad a few years back with making hard disk speakers -

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Shit, that's ace. Probably how it would've sounded if they'd included it on Amnesiac.
