Yeah I think it's mostly the latency and the visual interface that bugs me about Serato. I like stuff that's more tactile. I was more curious about that particular model of CDJs.

What does everyone do when faced with large discographies? I've recently discovered several record labels that seem to release consistently great music. Add them all together (or just take one really) and there's months of music to listen through. I don't even know where to begin sometimes. I tend to pick up V/A albums/EPs but some of the artists have huge discographies on their own.

I have the same problem when it comes to the "old legends" i.e. Chez Damier, Carl Craig, Kerri Chandler etc. I mean, Carl Craig has at least 10 psuedonyms I bet.

I have never had a problem with latency with Serato. Personally I think CDJ's are just plain cheap and takes the fun out of touching a piece of physical record, so whenever I try to spin records, I at least use serato, if not, just some wax and a mixer. I feel slightly stupid using those weird plastic disk things.

Modern DJ culture confuses me, lots of local dudes who are supposed to be good just seem to filter, flange and delay-n-loop out to the new songs. Either that or its some dude with a fancy haircut and muscle shirt who is just going drop to drop on some brostep, or as they say around here "future bass"

Yeah, this is a bugger for me as well. Following the tons of new releases, while trying to catch up on the past. My list with labels and artists to check out gets longer every day  I think things would be easier, if I knew what exact sound I'm after, but I like so much different stuff that I can't do that :music:

Starting to consider the convenience/practicality of Serato... Do you need to dedicate a computer to it, or can you use it on the same system as your DAW? Can you run the DAW at the same time? How hard is it to export/record your mixes?

you can use your main computer, i don't know if you can run a daw and serato sotfware at the same time. it is as easy as hitting a button to record what your mixing into an audio file.

With some trickery you I can get Live 8 and serato running at the same time with audio, but its taxing as hell to my CPU. As YEK said, its easy as heck to record your sets.

I suggest to all people wanting to be 'DJ's'--- don't get CDJ's just get serato and the means to spin it out. Although I may not have wax of everything I spin, I still want to try to feel the records even if its just the serato plates and real tables. Also learn to spin records with headphones, a mixer (w/some effects if ya want) and some real tables, it builds character and makes you look 100% cooler than playing on some plastic glowing thing.
