Right near the beginning when a woman says "archiana". I think Imma sample it and put mad echo and reverb on it, make it all futurey and shit.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but isn't the whole idea of sampling sounds/music that you shouldn't be able to hear where it's from? I would hate it if people came up to me and said, 'hey, isn't that that snare from xxxxxxxx?'

I never thought that. I always thought the idea was to make things that sound good. I guess I can see the appeal of it being mysterious, but ultimately my goal is just to make music.

I think the attitude varies depending on the genre of music. In hip-hop, especially golden age era tracks or older, you'll here the same samples very often because it's a deliberate nod to previous songs. Not just the same breakbeats, but lines from classic tracks, sampled directly or referenced, or familiar samples like this below (@ 0:20). Turntablism can be pretty thick in deliberate sampling as well, it's like trainspotting porn. They want people to know where the samples are from.

This is a good example of deliberate samples being used:

But that's not always the case. Some producers pride themselves on finding obscure and rare samples. Madlib and DJ Shadow especially - they often flip a lot of bars of songs most people would never recognize. Or they just chop the hell out the samples, like this Dilla track:

Another example of the "obscure" route... people slowly noticed a lot of "chillwave" hits were built on liberal samples of old 70s and 80s songs. It was purely an aesthetic choice (maybe personal choice of the producers), not a easy to source sample. They also edited the samples a bit. It certainly wasn't immediately apparent when the songs came out.

Washed Out's "Feel It All Around":

Neon Indian's "Deadbeat Summer"

On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, a lot of electronic and experimental artists use samples in such short snippets or edited so heavily that it's completely from sonic use. IDM, musique concrete, noise and ambient, drone, etc. Again, not intended to be recognized, at least not easily (That's what these kind of forums are for...'I hear lighter noises as snares in Alberto Baslam')

No these last tracks fall somewhere in the middle. Plethora of samples, some familiar, some not. Either way it's clear that they were intent on using just samples and sure enough both of these groups have quite a distinct style. It's this degree of sampling I find most appealing, especially when no original recordings are utilized as well.
