ryancolecreate
I'm really surprised this thread doesn't exist yet. Post up recordings of your latest jam sessions. I know a lot of you work this way. I'm curious what your unedited jams sound like. Doen't be nervous about posting some messy stuff. That's exactly what I'm interested in. I figure that jams represent ideas that are not quite to fruition, and letting others listen could have a catalyzing effect. Here's one from last night: Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag http://dl.dropbox.com/u/731647/raw%20tasty%20jam.mp3 Kit: MS2000, PreenFM, 8 channel mixer, sp-202 and bp-50 as a feedback loop, drumspillage on drums, and all sequenced from Numerology. No pattern changes were setup on the controller, so it's all mouse there, but drum mutes are being done with the microkontrol. Now post yours! I'm interested in the setup as much as the music. ryancolecreate
Ascdi, That's sweet! What's your setup like? Sounds like some funk analog stuff going on. Really cool direction. I think if it had a change up in there it could be a sweet track. I love how loose the synths are in it. Rbrmyofr, Really nice little track. I'd really never guess that to be a jam as it's so clean! Really nice phrasing and timbres. What are the synths? You gotta finish that out. ascdi
beans, nice jam. I really like how it truly begins to jam near the end with the encroaching noise. This is the first I've heard of this PreenFM thing, sounds mad! Which sounds in here is that thing making, I'm guess the ones that sound like very fucked up FM? Is the square bassline from the MS2000? I had one of those a long time ago. I REALLY LIKE the distant "Blade Runner" strings in this jam. Great sound. My jam is just software, although maybe some of the drum sounds originate from analogue equipment somewhere on the line. I forget which ones I'm using and from where they originated. They may just be downloads. Synths are just a few instances of DiscoDSP Discovery with some knobs mapped. ryancolecreate
wow that's some really gnarly software! Sounds great. :) Actually the Preen is the pretty melodic bit, as I'm a bit of a nood at making cool FM patches just yet. The MS2000 is the really modulating strange arpeggiator. The bass is the ABL 303 plugin :D The pads come from the default horns patch on the cz-101 run though a $10 effects unit. hahahaha The damn thing doesn't store patches and requires some obscure ass sysex to program so I just use it for the presets, which are pure cheese. I think there is secondary pad in there which is a non timed looping sample from the sp-202. I agree it only picks up at the end when I start destroying it haha. It all came out a bit 2002 paul oakenfoldy LOL. Guest Rz911
http://soundcloud.com/thsehe/beoc This little jam has been sitting in the "unfinished" folder for a good few weeks now, didnt take me long to get the structure down but just cant seem to add anything to it or make it evolve Also this is my first post, be gentle. ryancolecreate
That's super pretty. For me this feels like a holding pattern, ready for a different melody with some high notes to come in. Perhaps a bassline, but I'd keep it real pristine, so something really sparse. Like 1 or 2 bass notes every 4 or 5 bars or so. Keep or make space in it. Maybe it gets a bit more dense, but not much more. For dynamic range and phrasing I would remove stuff. It's a great direction. Keep poking it! The thing I really love about Numerology in instances like this is that you can setup dynamic patterns. In this case one might be the 2 or 4 bar pad loop, but in addition you could make a second sequencer with a longer pattern, say, 94 or 52 beats, something not divisible by 4, and thrown in a sparse sprinkling of notes, so that they get added into the more standard loop at changing intervals. It really makes simple synth lines come alive and not feel so loopy.
