Autechre - Extended ambience sample from a resonant structure

Recommended Posts

I've been meaning to get hold of this CD for ages, but I've just returned from a visit to my family over the other side of the country where I've got a whole load of CDs in storage in the attic.

Anyway here's a little curio that I don't think many on here will have heard. Back in July 1998 Future Music magazine asked a bunch of musicians (Coldcut, Carl Craig, 4 Hero, Scanner and a bunch of others) for unique sample sources to compile on a CD. Anyway here's Autechre's input - It's a long droney sample with the pseudo title - Extended ambience sample from a resonant structure:

And here's the FLAC -

(and yes it does stop suddenly on the original, I haven't cut it short)

I don't have the magazine any more but I seem to remember the resonant structure being something like a load of wooden pipes at specific lengths that water ran through and mics were carefully aligned to record certain sections down the pipe (no I'm not making this up !)

For those planning to steal it for their own compositions, here's the legal notice at the bottom of the case: "The samples on this CD are for readers' personal use only and may not be used for any commercial purpose whatsoever without the express permission of the copyright owner or his licensees"

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Always wondered what this would sound like when I saw it in their discography... An append of interest for sure. Thanks for upping!

Now I just need to find 'Silversub' from that FMCD comp.

DAMN BALLS - I knew I forgot something, I have that in the attic too. Next time I'm down (which alas probably won't be till late summer/early autumn) I'll find the CD and rip it....

since everyone is being generous with rare AE stuff...anyone have a rip of Track 0 from EP7? or whatever it's called...the 'rewind from the beginning' track.

and/or any other rarities, of course. i've got a fair amount of the remixes, but these b-sides are hard to come by.

Eeep no - careful man, those (especially the Ep7 one) were/are released as purchasable commercial releases so are definitely not allowed to be linked here. The two tracks above were freebies given away on a magazine (legally it's actually still a bit of a grey area posting even free stuff ...)

Also FWIW you aren't missing anything... it's just a boring couple of minutes of LP5-style bloops and whirls that go nowhere.

Also FWIW, you, aren't missing anything... it's just a boring cool sounding couple of minutes of LP5-style bloops and whirls that go nowhere.

fixt. ;)

my mistake! with it being a b-side-ish sorta thing, i was thinking it may fall under the gray area. it just always made me mad because i bought EP7 way back when it came out on Nothing, but was shorted that track of course. but looking at it as the releases that included the track as basically a 'bonus' i guess it's not so gray.

no harm intended. carry on.

that version of Silverside isn't half bad. i prefer the original...i think i'm in the minority for liking that track though. it seems a lot of folks do not much care for it.
