Successful producers/musicmakers who are douchebags

seems in the modern era, much like in advertising or viral marketing or reality shows or whatever, an artist does not need to be good or likable, just memorable, and one way to make people remember you is to be a twat and be completely full of yourself. exhibit A: you made a thread about this and we're all talking about it and paying attention to it and i'm betting more than a few of you listened to this guy that otherwise you might have ignored. so in a way it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy, you call yourself the greatest and people think you're a jagoff and out of rage listen to you, play you for their friends, etc.

I think that, more than being memorable, it has to do with this:

Some guy, whoever he is, lands an influential manager/publicist. After that, the hype snowballs and being a dick suddenly becomes something nicer-sounding like being diva, demanding, perfeccionist or primadonna. I didn't initially hear about this producer because he was a difficult person, I first heard praise about him through the media. You don't get into an artist because someone you know tells you "check this guy out, he's a total moron". That would be viral, yes, but the kind of viral marketing where he'd be the butt of the joke.

reminds me of this souljah boy youtube video where he showed "his studio" where he made "all his hits" and it was a dell laptop with shitty logitech computer speakers and a crack of fruity loops (which he said he still, despite being a multi millionaire now from his "music", had not bought a legal copy of yet).

so the dude has a lamborghini and a bentley and mansions and shit but his actual studio he makes all his money from is a crack of fruity loops on a shitty laptop.

I saw this exact thing happen the other day on a curb - two little birds that looked just like this. It was disturbing.

That Timbaland interview is so sickening, dear fucking god. The interviewer radio host helps make it one of the most infuriating things I've heard in like a month or more.
