Have you guys heard of the Heidelberg Project? This artist is buying up run down properties in Detroit and turning them into crazy art installations that you can walk around in free.

Some friends of mine went there. It's on my list for the next time I go.

not sure if this has been adopted in other areas, but LA has an ordinance where the property owner will get fined a max of $1000 for each day their property sits in a blighted state. this means that the property was foreclosed and becomes the property of the lender (the bank). since the bank is not maintaining the property, it is blighted.

it's a major issue for people still trying to live in communities where people are abandoning their houses. if someone has put their lives work into a residence in one of these decrepit areas, they will never be able to get anywhere near a reasonable return on their investment. whose fault is that? i'm not sure, but some of the financial burden needs to be shifted on the banks rather than the residents.
