I want to become unhealthily dedicated to music

Recommended Posts

i have a dream watektmm

a dream where i music 24/7 (as opposed to my current 4 hours a day/8+ on weekend)

a dream where music consumes every thought & sleep is reduced to 2 hour REM chunks to stimulate ideas, where i spend every day churning out tracks by the dozen or obsessively perfect the slightest element over many weeks

a dream where i become so detached from musical convention that i develop my own language resembling nothing of this earth, used to convey emotions that might not exist

a dream where i practice all forms of instrumentation & voice for hours on end, whipping myself with barbwire at the slightest error, until i can pick up literally any object & improvise a beautiful tune like rainman or some shit

a dream where i stop going outside & develop a strong aroma of death because i no longer bathe or go to the bathroom & i buy gear in place of soap

a dream where people are like "you remember owen? I think that guy died", & then i emerge once a year, pale of skin & long in beard, twitching & mumbling to myself with the voice of an angel, holding a collection of tracks that could uncreate the universe

how do i do this

-buy 1000 cans of beans

-buy 100 boxes of thumbtacks

-buy all of the drugs you can find

-get every container you can find in your house and fill it with water

-burn all of your non-music-making related possessions

-lock yourself in your studio/bedroom with aforementioned supplies and throw away the key

-sit at your music making station, and throw the thumbtacks (as well as any other sharp objects you can find) onto the floor surrounding your station so you will not be tempted to get up unless absolutely necessary

-get to work

if you need to use the bathroom, use your window as a toilet

if you need to sleep, try walking to your bed. (the thumbtacks will wake you up)

if you run out of supplies, put all of your tracks onto DAT tapes and throw them out the window (try to miss your excrement pile)

if you are lucky label representatives will find them, and pitchfork will give your posthumous release 6.5/10

It's very simple. No drugs. No entertainment. Unplug your internet.

Let go. Accept that you are dying. Become aware of your ego illusion holding onto life, but refrain from trying to do anything about it.

Now, make music like it is your final love letter for existance, like you are a bird soaring high above the rest of us, seeing how it all is. Tell us what you see.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

Don't have sex, don't pursue sex. Chemical castration will turn you into the the most recluse basement dweller there is, thats what you are looking for right?

find a patron/benefactor, have them give you a stipend to live on and a studio space to live and work. unplug internet and disappear into studio for 5 years

But what if he needs to download a pirated version of FL studios?

What the OP needs is to be sexually attracted to his music equipment. Give that roland 303 a kiss, maybe show your favourite synth what is like to be with a real man.

move into an enormous house and have a different kind of studio in every room.. this way when you get bored working on a track you can just go into your modular synth room or your marimba room and jam out something totally different with the same ideas flowing.
