Bummer, they were one of my favourites.

essines is not going to take this well

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Chocolate and Cheese worked for me.

Not at all familiar with Ween's catalog. Any recommendations for a starting place?

RIP ween, such a great band

that really really sucks, but I think they peaked years ago anyway. definite shame though, for sure one of my all time favorite bands.

I think Mollusk was where I started, probably still my favorite, though their entire catalogue is pretty consistent. I even thought La Cucharacha was great. Fuck I love this band. This is probably the most disappointing non-suicidal band break up for me. There are no other bands that blended equal parts humor and great songwriting so well. When they were goofing off they were hilarious, and when they were sincere it always struck on an emotional level. There's so much humanity in their music. When I listen to Ween, I feel like I'm hanging out with my friends.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy much of La Cucaracha so it's just as well they lay it to rest. Not sure about Aaron's solo album, but I will check it out. that video makes it seem boring as fuck.

I saw them a couple years ago actually, and they weren't that amazing. We tried to get them to play the Loop de Loop song that they made for Spongebob Squarepants but they wouldn't do it.

man, quebec was one of the best albums of the decade for me. i really love later ween. when they became a full fledged band and took on a number of genres. they always managed to write a song that subverted and parodied the genre it belonged to while being a shining example of it.

Super bummed ... I was having the worst day too when I found out about this.

I was recently wondering what the future of the band would be considering all the meltdowns and lack of new material and was somewhat reassured by a quote from Gener in this article: http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/03/01/aaron_freeman_of_ween_on_his_solo_record_and_the_road_to_recovery.html

  Quote
Slate: Are you back to writing for Ween as well?

Freeman: Yeah, the Ween door is always open. But I think we both need our own time to do our own stuff. I mean, we’ve been together since we were 15, so...

Ah well...I'm so happy now I got to see them live before they broke up. One of the best live shows ever, hands down.

Quebec is amazing.

Wasn't a fan of La Cucaracha, but one Quebec-tier album per decade would have been good enough for me.

Quebec is killer. tried and true is a perfect example of what you are saying.

Totally agree, and that last sentence really describes them well.

Glad I finally went to see them live a year or so ago. They didn't have the energy I'm sure they had in the 90s, but I'm glad I finally did. I've missed out on seeing too many other bands that eventually broke up.

Most Ween fans seem pretty down on La Cucaracha, but My Own Bare Hands contains an awesomeness equivalent to at least 7 great Ween songs rolled into one. That alone makes it a good album.

And finally we have a Ween murder ballad!

I'm going to see if my band wants to cover that one next show. Great song.
