I fucking love this album. His most mature to date, and that's saying a lot because The Nothings Of The North is probably in my top 10 of all time. The way Blotted Out collapses into that ambient stuff sounds sooooo similar to Clark's tune Indigo Optimus off Empty The Bones Of You. The similarity makes me happy, because that's probably my favourite Clark tune.

thats awesome they sampled you with your permission in the track. Still is strange though isn't it? Is it common for people now adays to sample music from musicians whom they sound similar to? I remember when Front Line Assembly sampled Aphex Twin and Autechre it was a laughing stock since it was considered ridiculous back then for an industrial artist to sample from an IDM act, material that only came out a few years prior. Im guessing things have changed though?

The other releases by Ametsub are very beautiful too. I have to buy them all

I haven't heard the first album yet, but I agree that the second one was amazing.

Again...Precipice Drive, nice!

Does anybody remember the name of 10+ yrs old track that's veeeeery similar to this one...? It was a big hit back then. Can't find it!

Not sure about that one. But here's a clip of him playing at the LEV festival last year. He drops snowy lava, precipice drive and other gems.

Just downloaded this and listened through while taking a long walk outside. Really good stuff.

I don't think it sounds much like BoC, completely different in feel. Although I like BoC also.

To be fair, my original piece was an ambient one, and I knew earlier on that whatever Ametsub did with it/to it would be rhythmic, so between that and the fact that I was already into his previous work, I felt it was a nice thing to be a part of.

Beyond that, it was almost more like Ametsub remixed my song, and ended up wanting to use it as more of an original track on his full-length, which is where asking me for permission and crediting me on the release came in.

I've received similar requests to be sampled by other people...MCs wanting to rap over my beats and melodies, stuff like that, and I've always turned it down. I don't think Ametsub was using my melodies on his record as a lazy reason to not produce his own sounds, but that is sadly the mentality of a lot of hip hop dudes who just want to be a voice over loops of stuff they like, instead of taking the time to make that side of their music themselves.

Anyway, great album, happy to have discovered this guy on the ICASEA Japan comp which led me to this :music:

Gonna throw it out there. Ametsub is probably the most underrated musician/sound designer I know of. Absolutely lush compositions.

This sounds interesting. Repetitive and trippy with catchy chord progressions at times. I'm definetely giving this a listen

A really disturbing account has implicated Ametsub in the harassment/stalking/abuse of Japanese artist Cuushe. So surprised and disappointed that an artist who shared so much beauty and joy through his music over the years is capable of such depraved crimes.

Gah that's a shocker! It taints the music as well when this sort of news comes out which is so unfortunate if the music is special. Something similar happened with a musician I was following closely on Twoism, huge fan of his work. He ended up disappearing for years and someone happened to recognise his mugshot and name in a newspaper, arrested on child abuse charges. His music (as well as Ametsub's) is so beautiful which makes it all the more uncomfortable of a juxtaposition.

I was pretty excited to see this thread had been active, hoping for news of a new release. This is pretty gross.
