sidenote: i've heard foobar is pretty good, but you have to have serious autism to mess around with the interface.

Here's mine -

(you can guess what my player of choice prior to Foobar was !)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

iTunes for Windows is shit, but iTunes for OS X is responsive and functional (once you turn off genius syncing, who the fuck uses that shit)

Another for Foobar2000... it can either be the most simple or the most complication player out there, just depends on how you want to use it.

I have it on my media center at home and can control it (player, playlists, library browse) from my phone. The custom query is also amazing and I have it configured to automatically generate specfic types of playlists for me.

I use XMPlay. it is free, memory efficient, has plugins for every format, a resizeable visualizer inc. cover art mode, a last.fm scrobbler, a sortable library that works perfectly with all compatible formats, and a simple interface. there are lots of nice skins for it as well.

main application is here:

all plugins/skins are here:

http://support.xmplay.com/

and here is what it looks like with my setup:

edit: also worth noting is that unlike most media players, the application loads instantly, as do songs when opened from the library or explorer.

I've become extremely attached to the waveform seekbar plugin for Foobar. It's indispensable for listening to mixes.

never had a single issue with itunes. running windows 7, 64bit. i really don't understand the hate. i like foobar for its custom interface and the discogs feature, but itunes works perfectly fine. i've run itunes on both a mac and a windows machine, it's slightly faster on the mac, but that's the only difference i've seen in usability.

foobar2000 all the way. Never went back after trying once. Very versatile player with a light CPU footprint. As an audio player, it compares to what VLC is to video players.

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema is a more apt comparison. VLC is cross-platform, so it sacrifices performance in a few ways compared to an app written just for Windows.

This made me grin. Zaphod handing down the bitchslaps.

I used GOM player for a while because all my simpsons episodes are some weird codec. Cool thread, I'm gonna make a switch today.

You know, a 26 year old man who never gets laid might have better advice to give concerning media players than a 16 year old girl who owns an iPod.

The 26 year old man might be lonely. He might be a loser. He might be embittered by his failure to connect with other human beings, and hides deeper and deeper into the chasms of computers. But he probably knows his shit about media players.

What if the 26 year old man who never gets laid doesn't know shit about media players and the 16 year old girl with the iPod is into the jailbreaking scene?

MusicBee

Out of the box, it has pretty much every feature you can think of. Including Last.fm integration, lyric/tag/album art fetching, flac support, CD Ripper. I have used every single media player you can use on a Windows Sytem (probably), and MusicBee is my favorite (unless you really really like customizing, then use foobar).

Edit: Woah, I have never heard of XmPlay. Might have to take a gander. Also, if you like really really simple media players, Billy is a goody.

statistically-speaking, those two would probably get outliered and their impact on the overall estimate would be mitigated, so Root5's premise is (again, probably) a more accurate reflection of the real story

foobar.

Using coloums UI, got the layout set out the same as iTunes (no pic due to being on eee-top)

I've just made the switch from Foobar2000 to this amazing little thing -
