I gotta get off my ass and get a CV/midi converter for the ol' 101....any suggestions for a cheap, absolutely minimal one?

If you can find a good price on one, only need one channel of CV/trigger and don't mind the size, don't discount the old Bass Station Rack. You can use the CV/trigger output on a separate channel from the synth, and as long as you completely disregard the "tb303 clone" marketing it was saddled with it's a really fun little monosynth in its own right. Plus it hactually has a CV-to-midi converter, which isn't something I see very often. I still haven't tried that out though, so I have no idea how well it works.

The only other stuff I was seeing in the price range I got mine for was the Doepfer midi to CV boxes and the PAIA kit, both of which cost a bit less and have more channels.

actually, i think i've found a workaround

my JX-8P can get pretty 101-ish, and it has MIDI

I was actually just working on some patches, so i'll post an example in a sec

but thanks for the thoughts, cheers

sounds ok to me

thaniks

i just did it in like 2 minutes

i was just so happy to get this synth

to fix all my midi problems

but the thing needs some restoration

sticky keys and unresponsive aftertouch

and a controller would be nice

but jeezum are they pricey...PG-800's go for like $400+

anyway, sorry to derail

(p.s. Chesney, once again i just wanna say that your synth collection is a sight to behold)

Cool. Black beauty has some rhythm ;)

Got a lovely pop and hiss to it.

Hey man,

Yeah, definitely got a vintage aura about it, dunno much bout it though,

think a more in depth investigation in to switching between rhythms & tempo is needed.

I've had the lid off and tweaked about the tuning pots in side with a shielded screwdriver,

its got possibilities!

I've got to say, after having one for years and years, trading it for a Commodore 64, and then getting another one cheap last year, my favorite non-sampling drum machine is still the humble Boss DR-660.

If I may be so shamelessly WATMM, isn't the DR660 supposedly what Squarepusher used circa Feed Me Weird Things? Or the S550 or something?

think it was the DR-550 yeah...both that and the 660 have some great drum samples including decent 808/909 if you're after those sounds on the cheap

And like 90% of Legowelt tracks.

I built the Sonic Potions LXR with the expanded CV/Trigger IO board right after Brexit when the dollar was really strong, paid maybe $450 for the kit.  Lots of fun and very powerful --  it's the hub of my current setup providing beats and sequencing 2 MI Shruthis + sending clocks/signals to my eurorack stuff.

I was psyched to notice that Tubbutec sells a generic MIDI retrofit for pre-Midi analog drum machines, which tend to sound fantastic.  It's not cheap but I've had a Hammond Auto-Vari 64 I got free years ago sitting around underused because preset patterns and lack of any kind of sync make it not very useful, but I could never part with it because THE SOUND, my god.  Going to grab one of those things as soon as I have the money for it.

a nice, compact desktop drum machine is the one of the things missing from my gradual full live setup im working towards in the next year or two. im very much liking the look of the analog rtym, but i really didnt enjoy the machine drum. is the interface quite similar to the machinedrum?

Guest Chesney

Yes and no. It's typical elektron with it's pattern, trig layouts etc, but has quite a few menu changes and the pads and performance sections are obviously different.

I prefer the MD actually, seems more logical for some reason but that definitely does not mean it is the same for everbody.

i might wait a year or two and see what else appears in the market with CV control in mind. im in no rush, i find sample based drummery more than adequate for production anyway, and in fact far more suited to my sound than any drum machine ive actually owned.
