wireless keyboard and mouse combos

i'm looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse set for pc couch gaming.

brands? microsoft .. logitech? price range i should look at or specific models...

if your PC gaming is playing games that are ports from the console versions, then it won't matter so much.

If you're playing a game that was PC native from the get go, and especially if you're playing in a competitive manner (counterstrike, team fortress 2, etc) then latency is going to be a big issue.

I bought a high end logitech wireless mouse specifically for gaming, and it was shite. I'll never use wireless again. as a consequence, all my peripherals are cabled. my keyboard even uses PS/2 connection rather than USB so as to get the best performance possible (PS/2 connections have a direct line into the micro controller on the system, and have n-key rollover, something which USB cannot provide. any manufacturer telling you otherwise is lying.)

maybe things have changed since your last experience, i've just scanned the reviews for g700 on newegg and only 3 people out of ~350 mentioned some lag issues, many others specifically notice that there were no lag issues.

ok, so what about all those people who have no lag issues with this mouse ?

get a long double usb cord, plug it in to your keyboard and mouse, solved.

what about the slew of professional gamers (that actually compete in world wide competitions and get paid to do so) that do not touch wireless peripherals with a bargepole?

Before you guys get completely anal about latency then read Yek's post again. Couch gaming. Something tells me Yek isn't one of those CoD gamers who scream obscenities at other gamers.

the fact is that there is a widespread satisfaction with current gaming wireless mice. your point may have some merit but it's statistically insignificant and off the target as squee says.

do you want me to make a list of native pc games where wireless latency won't matter at all ?

i don't understand what are you arguing about here anymore.

yes it makes sense and is intuitive that wireless mice and keyboard might have issues with latency, everyone gets that, but according to hundreds of reviews of logitech g7 and g700, just two examples, those issues simply don't exists.

the competitive gamers' requirements are a whole different matter.

i once tried to become a pro gamer, got pretty close in a county tournament couple years back. Sadly I haven't picked up a controller or my 2003 Sony Vasio Kayboard and Mouse (wired) since losing. I've accepted my fate.

I use a wireless keyboard, but I am afraid its for a macintosh, so I can't help you with this dilemma.

edit: Go for Logitech, I'd say. I don't have experience with their keyboards, but I've had one of their netbook-sized wireless mice for a couple of years and it's still going nicely. Only have to replace the battery once every 4–6 months or so too. As for Microsoft stuff, they used to make quality products (I had one of their early optical mice for about 10 years without any problems) but I've gone through a couple of their wireless mice, they start to malfunction after 6–12 months. One of them would double or even triple click sometimes instead of just one click, and the other would sometimes not register clicks at all.

I play CS:S with a G700, but I always keep it wired. It is noticeably slower when you are trying to get headshots and a fraction of a second difference matters. (it is not atrocious though) I'm pretty good at CS and have been playing it for a long time so I can easily notice when my shots aren't registering. If you want to use it wirelessly for RPG's and games like that it wouldn't be a big deal. I use it wirelessly when I sit on my couch and play Skyrim on my big screen with no issues whatsoever. Just a warning the mechanical keyboards are sensitive and I have broken one and had issues with buttons randomly not working on another, but usually it works fine and the problems go away on their own. They are also VERY loud compared to regular keyboards so if that is a problem I would suggest something different.
