Oh my god. Soon some popstar is going to come out and say he/she's been faking the singing live and it's all been prerecorded and that everybody's doing it. My world will collapse.

Anyway, me thinks it's silly to pretend that you are playing the instruments when the instruments aren't necessarily even connected.

Dear Deadmau5, just find another way to spice up the show. Control the visuals, take your pants off and do a helicopter dick. Should not be that hard. After all you're in entertainment business and earning huge amounts of cash by supposedly entertaining people, show some professionalism and value for money.

What the fuck is EDM?

Electronic Dance Music, duh.

Since when are we calling it EDM?

Apparently it's an American invention from the early 2000's but it seems to have gotten a re-emergence with the style having mainstream popularity currently. That's what wiki said to me. Americans did also give use the wonderful term 'electronica', which I refuse to use for a reason I have forgot it seems.

^this - I personally don't mind throwing "EDM" around because it's a broad term. That said it's clearly been adopted by record labels (in America) and promoters to describe guys Skrillex, Deadmau5, Guetta, etc. I agree, it's the same reason 'electronica' was coined, to sell and market records easier. "Electronica" came to lump together trip-hop, house, d'n'b, and techno in the 90s and now "EDM" supposedly covers dubstep, electrohouse, fidget, whatever the fuck moombahton is, etc.

Personally I like the term "lamestream" to describe the few DJs and "indie" bands that the mass public seems to be aware of. It's the one funny that site hipsterrunoff has come up with recently.

Yeah, the music is what's important. But I see merit in both deadmau5's rant and Gerald's reply (though the misguided comment about nuking Palestine kinda seems like he assumed deadmau5 was militantly pro-Israel due to his being perceived as Jewish).

It's beyond misguided, it's was just :cerious:

Or was it? Because now that I think about it, I usually feel compelled to bring up dubstep during my political discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Because Israel likes to drop bombs on Gaza like Skrillex drops da bass all over, even though Skream and Benga were the architects of dubstep, ousted when the brostep fundamentalists hijacked the peace process.

kind of true. but so what? The music is what's important correct? That's why AE do shows in pitch black rooms, right?

But there are some who obviously perform live. Mouse on Mars is a good example. Squarepusher, Jamie Lidell...

Sorry vproc, my comment was meant to be about the original statement from deadmouse, not in response to you. I'm just slow in organizing my words into sentences.

Also I think it's pretty funny that Gerald's response is that venomous, considering his live set-up is 2 laptops running Reason.

a guy called gerald is a fucking wizard on the decks though.

deadmouses opinion is basically irrelevant because hes complete shite.

also, i dunno where your getting two laptops from for a guy called gerald, last time i saw him he was using 3 synths, 2 laptops, a 909 and 2 turntables.

and it was mindblowing

yep, caught a "DJ" set of his in ibiza and it looked like he had more kit than the chemical brothers!

Given peoples proclaimed musical tastes on this board, I have to imagine that few (if any) of us listen to this guy's music, never mind attend his concerts... so Shits Given << 1.

*ignores hypocrisy of bothering to post this*

You're bitshifting the amount of shits given to the left by 1? That's a lot of shits

Thanks for the Monolake links btw.

DM should listen to some, you know, real electronic music artists. Who do real shit live. Like you know, most of the good ones.

deadmau5 is so condescending. these days, he's acting like he's some type of representative of electronic music, like he speaks for the "scene." dude needs a reality check, all that fame has gone to his head. electronic music has been around way longer than him and it will be around long after he is dead, at which point i don't think anyone will remember his bland pop compositions or opinions.

I am all for the deadmouse hate but this time he actually has a valid point.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Reminds me of Skrillex quote in early 2011, regarding Britney Spears:

  Quote
"I thought the dubstep part was unnecessary," he continued. "Not to say it was done wrong. I feel like it was very self-aware and consciously put in there to be 'the dubstep part.' I can see a lot of people getting pissed about it — the purist dubstep and drum and bass fans — but at the end of the day, it's cool that people are trying new things. Sooner or later, anything that happens in the underground — be it watered down or not — it always makes itself into the mainstream. It's cool to hear."

edit: as a pointless aside, deadmau5's music is awful and gerald is a fucking genius that did a LOT of good. no one has 'the answer' though.

Deadmau5 just likes to hear his own opinion. I bet he records it and plays it back over and over.

What a twat.
