I'm having trouble finishing my song "In Earlier Years", as I'm adding lyrics. So I took a break and made another song. It's a summer song.

It's Hot Out There

Anyone get the Jon Hopkins reference?

Thanks again.

Here's one I've been working on. Since finishing "the hunt" I basically finished this new one working straight through 'till now.

It's a bit of a joke as it's... well... it's dubstep... ape dubstep...

Give 'er a listen:

I'm working on this one currently. I may just leave it the way it is, but I also may play around some more. The name, "smooth 80s" isn't the final name of the song. I'm still trying to come up with something suitable. Suggestions welcome.

Hmmm, it sounds more like a parody of the dubstep style. I would try to make the beats bigger, more syncopation, add hi-hats, Gigantic, mix-drowning snare drum...

Thanks for listening Goiter. The suggestion is appreciated too. I totally forgot about high hats and snares. I'll work on it some more tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Hmmm, I can agree with Goiter that it feels a bit under-accomplished but on the other hand I like how you didn't sign up for the usual dubstep drop. I think you have something here, like an ambient approach to the wob won, but I would just expand the idea more. Try it in your next song! Nice tracks all along btw :)

Yeah, it seems to me like drums are more of an afterthought for you with your compositions. You need to work on your percussion; your work will sound livelier all around for it! Good luck! :) Edited by Goiter Sanchez

Yeah, I've been focusing on atmosphere too much. I need to take the time to write some good percussion out. I'll try to give it a little more attention from now on. thanks again.

1.38-1.44 I like it, keep it, expand on it, the rest- delete.

Thanks for listening. Keep in mind that this is very much a work in progress, but I do appreciate comments like this. Any help I can get is more than welcome. I'll be changing a lot of this song around, glad to hear you liked that part though. I'll definitely expand on it, but I think I'll keep the rest going, but to an extent. I just listened to it again and this track does need a LOT of work done on it. I didn't get a chance to work on it today, and I'm busy all weekend. But I'll keep you guys posted on any progress to get some more feedback.

Thanks guys.

Guest Frankie5fingers

i gotta agree man, this does need a bit of work. it seems like you have something but i don't really get any feel for it. im just not that interested. definitely need to work on the percussion, its very bland and doesn't really grab your attention. and the progression really isn't that great, it seems like you just pull out and insert the same sounds at different times. the sounds you have are pretty good, but there isn't enough going on to really get me listening.

so overall, the track is ok at best. but knowing you, i guarantee that this will be one amazing track when finished.

My comment maybe seemed a bit harsh but you take critique extremely well, respect about that! :)

Just wanted to elaborate why I singled out that 6 sec portion- that`s the only place where I feel that instruments and grooves locked together creating something whole, at other places in the song i felt it`s just every instrument playing it`s own thing that might not even be in the same key :) So you just have to take the part that has a ground underneath it and expand on it, otherwise it might be frustrating/counterproductive fixing it just for the sake of fixing it. Anyway, keep up the good work/attitude! :)

I think I may just scrap this one for now actually. I have other songs that are much better that need my attention. After all this one was just for fun, it's was never intended to go on the album I'm working on. So I think I'll just continue working on the album for now. But thanks for the input and the kind words from Frankie and Zemudene. Cheers.

Here is one that is a bit different. It will go on my next album when it's finished. I decided to add lyrics. Only a little though. Kept it simple. Have a listen to the not yet fully mastered or even finished in layout version of:

OK, I'm going to say some things which hopefully won't offend you, I'm giving these suggestions because I think this has a lot of potential. I love the beginning. The piano is a great surprise and is executed really well.

The next synth to come in should be an octave higher, or should differentiate from the first bass synth more somehow. Or replace it.

The vocals aren't lead vocals but they're being treated as such. I feel like you should either give a more robotic performance and double/triple it or make a stronger performance pitch/emotionwise and arrange it up a 5th or an octave. A well arranged chorus of these vocals would go a long way.

The lead synth that comes in at the end is cool.

I really like this. I'm beginning to enjoy more and more tracks that don't need drums. It has a great vibe and some nice sounds. I guess I had to point out where I think it wants to go. If this helps, great, if not, do your thing!

I like the arrangement in your tracks but there is no tention at all. It doesn't develop from some point to another or starts low and gets anything else later. there is no question and no conclusion.
