Music similar to Tim Hecker's

I second Belong's October Language. Kinda shoegazey, and from what I've heard belong's newest album is even more shoegaze (and less Tim Hecker).

Btw, I thought there was a thread similar to this one ("music similar to [...]" or something) in which vhs head and com truise were mentioned, and someone said something about an artist using a lot of sidechain compression and I was about to check that out but I didn't and now I want to read that thread but I can't find it and and and... Anybody got an idea?

Agreed. Flumina is such a beautiful album which I constantly re-visit. Don't want to change the direction of the thread but here are my favourites from that album:

All four just sooooooooo beautiful.

everytime someone plays me a Tim Hecker track they love it always reminds me that Zoviet France was doing this style better and more provocatively 15 years before.

womp womp but yes I agree. It's almost shocking how underrated they are given how much output they have.

i give the boomkaters and the pitchforkers about 3-4 years before they start worshipping Zoviet France and Scorn like they do with Cluster, Conrad Schnitzler and Coil

it will happen, its just on delay. By then we'll see plenty of Scorn and ZF reissues and probably a boxset or 2. Unfortunately when that happens any piece of Zoviet vinyl you'll find will be $200

Some Fred Frith can be in this vein (but his output is really really varied, and obviously a lot of his stuf with John Zorn or on Tzadik is more ummm avant garde):

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

i'm with you on that, it seems like the time is ripe now what with a lot of ZF-ish contemporary music (such as tim hecker) gaining momentum coupled with the interest in reissues these days.

personally, it'd be lush to get my hands on affordable reissues since as it stands ZF releases, especially vinyl, can be prohibitively costly on the second hand market. (but you're right, then we'll never be able to afford the originals!)

anyway, I second the ZF recommendation here and also add another shamefully underrated band: lovesliescrushing. their stuff from the 90s is a clear precursor to stuff like tim hecker, imo

i have to second this album especially. it has a sound that is very close to tim hecker's 'trademark' wooly melodic bits, with just the right amount of distortion and harmonic coherency as Tim Hecker's most interesting stuff imo. be checkin.
