Spielberg's "Lincoln"

Recommended Posts

I hope Lincoln is 50 feet tall in the film and throws cannonballs at the confederacy with his bare hands. And then he sees the matrix and realizes blacks are people.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

i honestly had to do a double take when i caught Jurassic Park 2 on Tv the other night, i completely forgot it was directed by steven spielberg. Wow! It's seriously one of the worst cash grab movies ever made. Even the john Williams score sounds severely phoned in.

It's also amusing how steven spielberg skewers asian tourists in a movie made in the late 90s after he did Schindlers list and the Color Purple. Oh steven

If you're thinking of the same scene I'm thinking of; I always thought it was a nod to Godzilla.

Munich was a really good film I thought... so I think he still has the ability to make great films, but yeah he has also released a few stinkers this passed decade.

But DDL is pretty much the best thing in the world.

I hear the twist at the end is that Lincoln is an alien.

Its insane how eerily alien the real Lincoln looked. I mean, in his time he was sort of surreal looking. Incredibly tall for his height and especially in the 19th Century (6 foot 4 inches), practically waifish in width, a huge forehead. He had an unusually high-pitched voice, to which a lot of his early opponents mocked as a "sissified speech impediment". Not to mention his extreme bouts of depression, stemming from an early exposure to bi-polar and manic depressive disorders (his friend attempted to kill his father with an axe when he was an early teen...his diary shows how upset and confused this made him).

What is amazing to me about Lincoln the man is how he ardently fought against his own natural shortcomings like awkward physicality and forms of speech to become one of the best orators in the Congress for his time, and one of the (if not the no.1) most respected American Presidents in history.

edit: he was a US Rep, not a Senator, Im an idiot.

Nice facts man. Being from the UK we don't get taught any of this stuff. And it was pretty interesting.

Hell kids here probably think he is a vampire hunter.

I've sometimes wondered if anyone has any time here for Spielbo. Patchy at best recently (still not seen Tintin or War Horse), but back in the day, fuck... his earlier films put me in mind of Robert Altman at times (maybe not surprising as he was originally down to direct California Split).

However, I am absolutely certain that I am the only person on this board that loved War Of The Worlds, while also having little interest in DDL. Heresy, no doubt.

I can't get excited for Senor Spielbergo

why not?

I gotta give credit to Spielberg, he's one of the few monolithic cash-cow gigantic directors that I still have a lot of respect for.

yeah, and its true hes made some terrible movies but he also made Jaws, Schindler's List, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET...if you give him a good subject to make a film about he will not disappoint because he knows what he is doing

Best PKD related movie out there, IMO. I like it, even if Tom Cruise is so short that it makes my skin crawl.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

man, i really wanted to enjoy it, but Im sorry, I just think Tom Cruise is a fucking horrible actor. He comes of f as if he's trying to "sell" his characters, it drives me up a fucking wall. The concept of MR was really neat, but he threw me off.

Also Colin Farrell getting shot and that whole aspect made me realize that MR basically lifted its entire conclusion from LA Confidential.

Minority Report has an interesting idea and some cool sets (thinking of the freeway, the perpetual advertising, etc), but it's let down by a lot of downright bizarre Spielberg-trying-to-be-edgy-and-Kubrick-like-but-failing moments. He stuffs the film with "eccentric" characters for no rhyme or reason, like he feels it's expected of him to do so (in order to be Kubrick-ian), but he also adds in standard Spielberg goofball trash. The result is an extremely uneven tone.

Eccentric characters - you've got: creepy guy with no eyes who sells Cruise drugs (whyyyy?), creepy cryofreeze overseer (whhyyy?) , creepy genetic pioneer lady who caresses mutant plants (whyyy?)...but juxtaposed with this you have "goofy jetpack fight crashing through windows and floors, haha, look they crash through people eating dinner and playing saxophone lololol" and "Cruise jumps off a moving car and sees some ladies doing yoga, hahah" and "haha, look, Cruise was gonna die cuz he was in a car plant while the car was being assembled but then he sits upright and drives away!!!" Not to mention the utterly gross out eyeball exchange recovery scene - again for no particular reason. Watching that film I got the sense Spielberg is like an alien trying to approximate normal human humor and shock value, but failing miserably. The film seemed made by committee, and just carelessly assembled. All his films from that time on do too. Including Saving Private Ryan. It's like, how can you craft these intricate battle sequences, but then be so out to lunch in terms of continuity that you forget how many characters are marching on a hilltop? I think of this point on as Spielberg's "weird period". Lots of "almost good" films (war of the worlds, minority report, saving private ryan) that are just fucking weird the more you think about them.
