fired up flintstone - " sue barker has gone absolutely donkey in the pigsty"

Good shout. A massively overlooked album this, one of my favourites of May 2004 but frontman Quim Tucker's solo album "Drums, drums, DRUMS & more fucking Drums" slightly improves on it and is possibly my #1 post-retro bumfunk record of the decade.

ha i must say some of your selections were pretty inspirational there on helping me make my mind up about the best post everything pre decimilization sounds of the past 20 years gosh has it really been that long since tedd cox the lead singer from infinite node truckers spazzed out at david lettermans birthday party ? nancy spratogast was still picking bits of cake out her hair for years afterwards, but pitchfork only gave it a 6.3 !! : (

:ok:

I cut both Vespertine and Medulla from top 100 - picking 100 really is kinda tricky.

Well fuck, it closed two hours early so the bottom 20 or so of my list isn't accurate. That's so irritating!! Fuck you, pitchfork, I hate you with all my heart.

Just ignore everything past Ambivalence Avenue:

You also put more than 100, which means they won't count your list.

Lots of people putting Beck's Sea Change on their lists, why no love for Guero?

I put Guero on mine.

Yeah, I was going to trim it down to the final 100 in the last two hours that I thought i had. Cunts.

I saw no mention of time zones in the rules, it just said 11:59pm. I did attempt to fix the list up a couple hours early in case their was a time zone issue, but that wasn't early enough apparently.

I think all of Beck's albums are solid but I never got the acclaim for Sea Change over Odelay, Midnite Vultures, Mutations or Guero. It's a lovely album but it just doesn't sound as groundbreaking or sonically interesting.

That sucks! But for what it's worth I enjoyed your list.

Thanks! I spent a good chunk of my week listening back to most of those albums with a critical ear, so I was actually pretty choked that I didn't get to fix up the end of the list. It was still worthwhile because of all the awesome music I listened to, and I ended up writing some interesting stuff because of it. Still... fuck you, pitchfork.

Ah fuck, I didn't realize that Aenima was a 1996 release. That one should be #5 right after Kid A. Jules, if you're reading this, I'm sorry.

Fuck you, pitchfork.

So many albums that I wanted to put on that I know I would've liked had I just spent the time to listen to more. Like Lightning Bolt and the Mountain Goats.

Lightning Bolt's Hypermagic Mountain's pretty great, but probably not a top 100. But like you I haven't listened to it that much. Have you heard Hella's last album Tripper? Like Lightning Bolt it's a drummer and a guitarist who play hyper frenetic noise/math rock instrumentals, and their skill with their instruments is just fucking ridiculous. Anyway, Tripper is a special album because it's not only astonishing on a technical level but it's also just incredibly beautiful. When I hear it I feel like I'm having a religious experience. it leaves me inspired and in awe every time. Everyone should hear that album. I ranked it at 26, but it probably deserves to be higher.

Nope, no Hella. I need to listen to more of them. I also really wanted to put Aesthethica by Liturgy on there, but hadn't listened to it enough. Death Grips is my #1 though; that has Zac Hill in it.

Are they going to release the results of this at some point? Didn't bother to participate since I don't have any of those social media accounts, but I'd be curious to see if and how the tail wags the dog when it comes to what pitchfork readers consider to be good/great albums.

Who's surprised, really?

Haha, true. It's really a pointless exercise. Doesn't help that they make it easy for people to vote for P4K's own top albums first, and then for ones they've reviewed on the site, and then you have to manually enter anything else they never paid attention to.

The only surprise would of been seeing anything but OK Computer as #1. Some of the breakdowns of voter trends, alternative lists, etc was interesting. Also, 88% male voters, lol.

I tried to restrain my scorn but the more I read this list the harder it gets.

this is thoroughly boring even for a Pfork vote list. I mean, 3 Radiohead albums in the top 10? I love Radiohead, but come on...

just look at some of these stupid-ass picks. Mogwai's Young Team? I'm sick of hearing about Young Team being their best. it's only this revered because fokken noobs latched onto it and then moved on when the next post-rock band became it. their later, more developed stuff blows YT outta the water, especially Happy Songs and Mr Beast.

same fucking story with Stereolab and Emperor Tomato Ketchup. is that the only Stereolab album you ever listened to?

token hiphop picks like Kanye and Outkast, wow so cool. and omg you like RDJ album too, mad! that Aphex guy is nuts, hey?

and I fucking lol'd at the hover text blurb for #7 Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot  fuck yourself

my coffee was cold this morning, or something.

haha, i had a post written up almost identical to yours but decided it wasn't worth posting even. well done.
