in a way though if theyre goal was to get media exposure for whatever their cause is, theyve probably been more succesful than they ever intended.

You realize you're talking about a Russian band?

This shit is revolutionary just by virtue of not being vocal trance.

Why make a protest at a church? Personally the right to protest doesn't trump the right to religious practice or the right to avoid shit punk music. Protest outside parliament, or in a park, or on the street - not in a church. They were rightly arrested for what they did, even if what they were protesting against is right, or even if the sentence is likely to be extremely harsh.

I think you are missing the point.

They knew exactly what they were doing. They knew they would get arrested. Their arrest, trial and harsh sentencing clearly illuminates major flaws in Russian leadership.

I honestly get choked up at the thought of how powerful their statement is. These women are bigger fucking badasses than any of us could ever hope to be.

come off it. everybody knew that already.

i think getting themselves arrested is/was stupid.

like somebody else said, nobody will care about them in 2 years.

they could've done a lot more in the next 2 years if they were 'free' and out there.

this is just a waste, of some badass pussy (rioters)

Yes I understand that, IMO that makes it even more stupid - protesting against the relationship between state and church by using a cathedral as a political soapbox.

Yeah I didn't really pick up on that. I didn't realise they expected to be arrested.

Of course everyone knew it, but who was doing anything about it?

No offense, but statements and attitudes like yours are what allows the corruption of a nation like Russia. Just sayin.

*cough* Bradley Manning *cough* , oh wait we've been conditioned here to believe he was a traitor, carry on!

I still get physically sick thinking about his imprisonment. I couldn't even muster an iota of relief about the prosecution no longer seeking capital punishment as a sentence - just the fact that it was a legal possibility is disturbing enough to ponder.

well the president says he's guilty so that's the end of it, because you know it's normal for a president to declare you guilty before your trial has even started. In other words Russia is so much more fucked up than the US, at least we respect due process here.

dunno what about stravinsky ? he caused proper riots + stuff just through the power of MUSIC . pussy riot are essentially just a jackass sketch

That was a joke, but yeah Stravinsky pissed people off because they thought his music showed an "abhorrence of everything for which music has stood these many centuries ... all human endeavour and progress are being swept aside to make room for hideous sounds...."

So like maybe Pussy Riot should abandon the punk thing and just open each song with a bassoon played above its traditional register and piss the State off that way

Edited by baph

this reminds me of that russian porn movie i saw where they pee on each other in a station in public

they got 2 years of jail but now even bjork and the rest of the world know who they are even though the music is complete shit

In her closing statement at the trial, Alyokhina said, "I am not afraid of you. I am not afraid of you and I am not afraid of the thinly veneered deceit of your verdict at this 'so-called' trial. My truth lives with me. I believe that honesty, free-speaking and the thirst for truth will make us all a little freer. We will see this come to pass."

World is becoming a fascist state. I can't believe that all oppressed efforts to express one's opinion can still turn out as a joke. People are so ignorant it's depressing as hell.

'go back to sleep America, your government is in control.'

I miss Bill Hicks so much.

It reminds me of Alex Jones: talk LOUDLY on a megaphone in public, get arrested for being a general obnoxious dick, brag about it and say things like "they can't never shut me up"

Of course 2 years sentence is too much but now they have street cred and inspired lots of youth so I think this time everyone wins

2 years is what they were sentenced. Who knows how long it will actually be. I wouldn't be surprised if these girls vanished.
