The way he uses color on the bottom pattern (I think there is a technical term for this kind of exercise in art school, but I don't know) is actually really pleasing to look at.

Yes, that is kind of interesting, but it's not the point. And if it is, there's a lot of noise distracting from it.

It is also interesting how he uses pop icons and zeitgeists in his work, as he is one of them.

I completely disagree with this, even if he is one of them. It was interesting when and how Basquiat did it but not anymore. Everything may very well be a reference to everything else but now this is such a banal, cliched aspect of postmodernism that it almost always seems cheesy to do this in such an obvious way.

The Death Star, an upside-down Macaulay Culkin cubist head, and a Steven Tyler doppelganger hang above a barren landscape of broken amusement park rides. The mysteries of the jungle rest in the background

Firstly, I never said that was the point. I was stating there was an actual exercise in art school for that sort of thing. That's all.

Secondly, how can you disagree with the fact I find something interesting?

Lastly, Basquiat wasn't an icon of his era, prior to his success as an artist.

I appreciate your opinion. Try to express it without degrading mine.

But you pointed it out. How does it contribute to what the piece is expressing? Or is this a naive question to ask in 2012?

You didn't say "I find it it interesting that". You said "It is also interesting". The difference is subtle and you could argue that its status as your subjective opinion is implied, but you could also argue otherwise. I don't find it interesting, is what I'm trying to say.

This isn't relevant to my appreciation of the work, but perhaps it is to yours.

I wasn't trying to degrade you and I apologize if I came off that way. My opinion of this work is apparently much different from yours, that's all.

no! I hate him because he was famous! I won't recognize his humanity until he's died for that sin!

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

That is the most curmudgeonly thing I've seen on here in a while, even coming from you. What's a good reason to have an exhibition then?

ugh huff puff it's not real art, not like in my day huff puff ugh

At least it's something different compared to the branding bullshit most celebs partake in. Shit like this:

Seems a lot of celebrities just use their name/image and everything else is someone else's work. I'd be nice to see people with fame promote being creative in general, even if they suck at it.

" Last law bearing means that any reformer or Prophet will be a subordinate of the Holy Prophet (saw) and no new Messenger and Prophet with a new religion, book or decree will come after him. Everything from him will be under the banner of Islam only."

I like it because they don't seem the least bit pretentious about it (as far as I can detect).

haha. come on if it was just for fun these 3 would just be chuckling like beavis and butthead in the privacy of culkin's drawing room but they think it's important enough to show the world. having an exhibition suggests they think people want to see it, and will buy it... which they undoubtedly will.

i don't think i said it wasn't real art... i said it was shite, which it is, in my opinion... i also didn't suggest that art was better in my day whatever that means... obviously just some strange dig at my age from an angry young whippersnapper.

I guess I don't really buy the idea that art has to be deathly-serious or made with po-faced, pious intentions in order to be worth exhibiting. THAT'S pretentiousness in my opinion. These guys have made some funny, wacky paintings, now they want to show them to the world. I really don't see the problem.

Think of it as the funny MS Paint thread or whatever. Sure you could sit in your smelly bedroom chuckling at the crudely-drawn picture of Joyrex rocketing into the sky, leaving a contrail of shite and farts behind him... but it's much funnier to post it here so we can all have a good laugh.
