FIFA 13 or PES 13

Played the demo last night (of FIFA 13), haven't owned a FIFA game since 10 but this feels good, slow realistic passing and decent defending. May well purchase.

It's a joke. It's all about backing off and containing and spending half the match holding down a single button while the AI defends for you. Its fucking shit. Now with this new first touch business and over aggressive, buggy argy bargy all you get is a game of random outcomes that frustrate the fuck out of you. Throwing all of these possibilities and variables into every equation definitely does make for a more realistic football match but it doesn't make a good video game. I like to know what is going to happen when I press a button. The new features all just translate into "now your team will make a shit load of mistakes" how authentic, how utterly shit.

Fifa are so committed to creating the absolute authentic football experience that for Fifa 14 John Terry will come round and bang your wife then burn a cross on the front lawn.

FIFA defending before tactical defending was a brainless affair of putting pressure and letting your defender pretty much automatically grab the ball. At least now there is more positioning and decision making involved. It's still something I could do in my sleep if it wasn't for executing perfectly timed slidings. There is nothing special about the tactical defending marketing blurb of FIFA 12. I don't think PES 2013 defending is worse. It has the same focus on containing and demanding you pick the right moment to try and grab the ball, punishing you if you choose wrong. Just like real defending. I think FIFA defending is a bit too forgiving but PES has a smaller amount of sliding animations for different situations.

About the randomisation stuff. I sort of agree that adding randomized parameters/outcomes might not be good for the gameplay. Ball control did seem a bit too random in the demo. But what I don't mind is adding ways to be more rewarded for player skill and thus increasing the depth. For example, in PES there's a button you can hold while controlling the ball to control the ball better. If you time it correctly you have better control over the direction of the first touch. Instead of randomizing/parametrizing the ball control, why don't they introduce player skill by letting the player try and accurately control the ball using some control system? Maybe they are too conservative to make the game more difficult. People start whining instantly when the game becomes a bit harder. Tactical defending is a perfect example of that.

I gave up on PES to be honest. Keepers were pissing me off too much. Downloading FIFA 13 on Origin now. If anyone is up for a game on PC. Origin username: ParhelicTriangle (I added you Social Spastic, but haven't seen you online yet. Maybe you haven't seen my friend request yet?)

EDIT: actually, fuck FIFA 13. I need to stop shelling out €50 a year to a series that can't even fix their blatant obvious bugs that have been in there year after year. A few minor gameplay updates, a new shell on their laggy, low-res UI and roster updates for €50 is a really shitty deal. Connectivity issues are even worse than before; Syncing still happens by dropping frames making every game against an opponent a few countries away a jarring experience; It still auto matches you against opponents with the same kit color. EA's solution: quiting within the first 10 minutes or so of a game will cancel the game, a lot of players know this and will quit if you score within the first 10 minutes, those first 10 minutes might as well not be there. New bugs: my game does not have commentary (probably region related), Ultimate Team does not work and after matchmaking I'm often stuck on the loading screen requiring a restart of the game. EA is run by a bunch of accountants and marketeers and I should stop buying their broken shit on this piece of shit Origin. /rant

Legacy defending as its called now was a far superior system in my opinion. There was no auto tackle or easy way to defend. To defend well it took constant and considered player switching while manually trying to track runners and cover all bases without this total AI assistance that you get now. The key difference for me is the tackle and the ability to get in close and fast on the attacker. Legacy defending lets you switch to the nearest man and get tight on him. The tackle came no more automatically than it does now by just holding down the contain button. The difference is I didn't have to let the attacker gain 40 yards towards my goal first. With tactical defending the tackle is pathetic. Its such a minimal stretch of the leg and its barely worth attempting with most outfield players. So you contain instead but holding the contain button doesn't let you get close to the man. You hover around an invisible forcefield and rely on the AI to come in and help out. I never know who the fuck I should be controlling in defence anymore. I got so fucked off with it yesterday that every time I gave away possession I simple just held down the team mate contain button and nothing more. I stopped controlling any players, didnt touch the stick and just held the one button. The result, a clean sheet. If I did that with the old system I would have gotten fucking raped. That says it all for me. Tactical defending should be renamed to AI defending but it makes people feel good about themselves when they think theyre being all tactical in their defensive play. Ridiculous.

I always been a Fifa game, I've almost brought it every year since 2000.

Also.. A few years ago PES was probably had better gameplay. But in recent years Fifa has gotten really amazing. Fifa 12 is by far the best sports game I've ever played.

If you play on PC there are community patches that give you all the squads with kits, faces, logo's and all.

I think the main issue is that they sort of nerfed defense in addition to the semi-auto contain positioning. I agree that the standing tackle is somewhat pathetic to the point there is little benefit to using it. PES has much better standing tackles. However, I don't think this is the fault of tactical defending, rather a mistake they made trying to balance defence and attack. I think the way it's currently balanced is wrong and it seems PES does this much better if you can stomach all the jerkiness.

After an evening of playing FIFA 13, I'm not convinced that the ball control changes they made are any good. The ball is jumping everywhere. They turned the players into unresponsive idiots.

I am loving FIFA 13 but I definitely need to up my difficulty from Zombie AI.

Sorry, but no. I was Division one on xbox and PC on FIFA 12, league winner etc etc, won far more games than I lost, my PC ratio was 7:1.

If you did that against me I would have punished you hard. Also the standing tackle isn't useless, I use it all the time to great effect. I admit when they first released FIFA 12 it felt like I wasn't really doing much in the way of defending, but it just adds so much more depth to be able to react to different situations.

Maybe you're better than me though, so i should just stay quiet.

So.. Do anyone know where to find Fifa 13 cheap?

There is so much more to fifa 13 than the last one I played (which may have been 98). All my 'states mates' say it's the best sports game they've ever played and I'm loving how it starts a championship between you and your opponent when you play friends online.

Seriously fuck you EA, ever since the new update the carrer mode freezes when you try to start a new season (after you finished the first season as manager). I was playing with Sunderland and before the last game of the season i was second place, the last game was spurs away and the game was 3-3 (i needed a the 3 points to win the league, Spurs were first place) when in the 90th minute Connor Whickam scored an absolute screamer from outside the box to make it 3-4 for me, I WON THE LEAGUE!! ... but all that hard work is now gone because i can progress to the next season.

Seriously don't update fifa and save after every game.

just bought fifa 13 today ...

i've installed. start game. get to select language menu. then it ends, just goes back to origin hub ??? i'm on a pc, fifa 12 ran perfectly so i don't understand it . i've installed it on my main computer as its amd 6core 3.3 16gb ram etc so it should eat it up. i'm wondering if its because its got the most bog standard graphics card in possible ? fifa 12 worked so there can't be much difference

right fifa 13 still won't start ... onboard graphics aren't quite good enough but tried two cards today both are better than minimum spec but still the game quits at language select screen

i never had this problem with fifa 12 it worked off the onboard graphics . decided to sack playing the odd game off and concentrate on musics but when fifa 13 was on sale yesterday i thought why not. 1 game and 2 graphics cards later still no joy

can anybody tell me whats the problem ??? ... i think i'm going to stick with the nvidia gt610 card. i've had a read about fifa 13 online and the makers have said it's a graphics card based game rarther than cpu ... any help would be great and then i'llkick your ass online

I've had this problem after removing and reinstalling FIFA 12. Crashed to desktop after language choice. It's unlikely it's related to your hardware. Uninstall the game, delete all FIFA related keys from your registry, delete all FIFA related stuff in AppData and your documents folders and reinstall.

Did you attempt to run it in Compatibility Mode?

By the way, this year's FIFA is a true gem. I play it so much. FUCK.

i've uninstalled / reinstalled - cleaned pc inbetween and still the same thing happens. can't think why other than graphics card ....

If FIFA 12 works, it's not your graphics card. Same tech.

i read somewhere else about installing windows media player as i had it uninstalled and after i reinstalled it game works fine
