scotland is cooler than england.

I am inclined to believe this is true simply because of Malcolm Tucker.

I love how the term "meme" has been digested and vomited by the web mind so many times that it now just refers to universally adaptable phrases, mostly from video games, that are typically used in youtube comments. this form basically serves to make everyone feel like they are part of a larger group because they have all played skyrim or mass effect.

there is also the picture/text "meme" which isn't a meme either.

I love how pedants refuse to recognize the evolution of a language in order to artificially separate themselves from the masses

(j/k just screwin' with you)

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

you do know the idea of memetics isn't entirely limited to a select cultural vacuum, right?

I'm interested to hear sheatheman's idea of what a meme is, actually.

Please enlighten us, Lord of memes sheatheman!

you're right lumenprol, it is the evolution of language. have you ever been on xbox live and heard a 4 year old speak, and you can tell that the xbox raised him? it's a new language, i think. i can't understand what they say.

maybe what i meme is that internet memes, the ones most of us see, are becoming more like metamemes, memes for the sake of memes, and are becoming meaningless. i used to think of memes more in relation to zeitgeist phenomena, but now the term meme only seems to apply to internet memes, which are just tiny artifacts of postmodern, post-internet humor.

i don't have TV and so am unable to watch hannity.

yep, viral ideas are what they are. wether they have a certain meaning or not is not really relevant. just like genes. a meaningless gene is still a gene.

That's true, but memes used to just spread; people weren't so very aware that they were spreading and how. Now people replicate them BECAUSE they are a meme, or want them to be a meme, where years ago things just spread because people liked the idea.

I think that these overt memes are simply a meme in and of themselves, and that the popularity of sharing them on the web will fade away just like anything else.

lol, people have always been spreading stupid ideas so that they'll catch on just for the sake of catching on. for god's sake, just look at fashion. the only difference is that we have a name for it now.

everyone thinks society is coming with new and creative ways to be mindless but i think it's just the same shit as yesterday :/

they were spreading because of exactly the same reasons they spread now, the only difference is that they are older and ubiquitous.
