Greg Saunier from Deerhoof is great. I love how he can just go totally apeshit on such a minimal setup.

I agree. He was one of the best things about seeing Deerhoof live.

I was blown away by Deerhoof live, but even with two guys playing 12 strings the guitars weren't even close to loud enough.

so many I'll list a few favorites:

Billy Cobham

Chris Adler

Keith Moon

Chris Coleman

Terry Bozzio

Zach Hill

Tom Jenkinson

I'd say Magma's Christian Vander. Stunning drummer/performer. Kind of like a mix between a jazz and rock drummer, he can play insanely complex rhythms effortlessly with a mad "in your face" energy.

good call, that dude is amazing

I love 1970s Vander's facial expressions almost as much as his compositions

Hmmm

To me he sounds like the quintessential non-drummer. Like Robert Pollard on adderol with a piccolo snare.

Now I should probably qualify that satement by saying that I'm a huge Squarepusher fan and I love 99.9% of his stuff.

Of course there is some lovely drumming on Ultravisitor and Just a Souvenir.

I just remember that Budakhan Mindphone was the first SP I ever heard, and the extreme Portastudio-ish looseness prevented me from initally liking him.

That's all.

"Iambic 9 Poetry" is lovely, of course.

I really like Dave Smith (Guapo; Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses), to keep in line with the slight zeuhl/R.I.O. undercurrent in this thread.

more rolls than a bakery

I learned alot from Joe Morello's videos.

Kick technique, for instance.

Most drummers just bury the beater into the head. It sounds so much better to play actual legato strokes.

It's like playing a timpani, and just pushing the mallet into the head.

Fyfe Ewing from the early days of Therapy?.... maybe also Papa Joe Jones, it don't get much more IDM than this:

There was another video on YouTube a few years back that is now blocked when he checked his watch mid weird ass crazy drum solo only to find out he had no watch on and busted a huge grin. genius... my description totally doesn't do it justice....

John Theodore

Bill Bruford

John Bonham

Blake Richardson

Jose Pasillas

Max Roach

Bill Bachman

Edit:why do things have to change on me when I get used to them?

Buddy Miles, don't know that much of his stuff but he gelled with Jimi like no other. He's a huge part of why Band Of Gypsys is my favorite Hendrix record.

Brant Bjork, too, dude has the Midas touch.

don't know if favourite drummer, cos I just got aware of him (not that I did not know the name, but you know, never heard him playing)... I guess Steve Gadd is one helluva drummer

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.
