Am i going crazy?

Recommended Posts

Don't really know how to explain this but i'll give it a try ..

About a few weeks ago i started obsessing over the lines in my palms (specially the life line), there is a break in my life line that i don't remember being there and now i'm paranoid this means i'm going to die. I don't believe in any of bullshit like palm reading or astrology but for some reason i'm acting like its real. This fear/obsession with my life line is taking over my life, i'm in a shitty depressive mood, i have 24/7panic attacks, i've been sleeping like shit because i wake up in the middle of the night with panic attacks, its almost crippling.

Is this type of paranoid behavior sign of mental problems?

I know this fear of sudden death/heart attack is because of my paranoia that adderall is affecting my heart, so i decided to stop taking it for a month to see what happens but this anxiety/paranoia is not normal.

help, advise, personal stories all welcome.

the short and the thick of it, yes youre going crazy.

the whole basis of that palm reading shit is supposed to make to worry for no reason. besides, your skin changes as you get older. the lines in your palms arn't going to stay the same your whole life.

but i have no idea what kind of advice to give ya. only thing i could say is live each day like its your last. theres no point in worrying when youre gonna die. when your times up its up. if you worry about when it is you waste all that time that you could have been using to have fun.

i would stay away from any Cinnabons though.

slow down on the addies man. you're not crazy you're just taking way too much of an amphetamine

and if you did already slow down on them you may be going through a mental and physical withdrawal

Sounds like you could be depressed - that can feel more like crazy than sad. Right time of year too depending where you are. Go and tell a sympathetic doctor and see what they say. Hope it works out. Depression usually does. Don't overly spook yourself out. Just go get some cold rationalism from a doctor. And lay off the McKenna tapes and recreationals.

I agree and cannot emphasize this enough. If you keep thinking you're crazy you're gonna turn crazy.

yes you are crazy but don't get caught up in thinking your crazy either haha

meditating can help but even something like closing your eyes and taking three deep breaths while counting to 3 while clearing your mind can do a lot to center you....try it out when you feel something growing into a problem

do you smoke a drink a lot of coffee too? if so maybe cut down on them. it sounds stupid but they are right, don't think about it as much and try to occupy your mind with something positive. what you think about is ultimately how you feel so...

Yeah, this is definitely accurate.

I have a problem with grinding my teeth while I'm sleeping, and it recently made me get really obsessive about it in the day time, tonguing my teeth and thinking about them nearly constantly. It lead to me being deeply depressed and feeling on the edge of insanity sometimes. Similarly, I have woken up in the middle of the night from it, and not been able to get back to sleep from being consumed with worry. it can feel like you're stuck in a nightmare or a bad trip that never ends... You need to relax, really assure yourself that it will be okay, and then get your mind off it as much as you can. If you can find a *new* project to work on, especially a creative one, it will help tremendously. It could even lead to you channeling that energy into something great that you wouldn't make otherwise. Also, spending lots of time with happy, easy going people (if possible) will really help. it is so much harder to have that kind of anxiety when you're in a positive social situation. Another thing, even if you can't spend lots time with other people, getting away from the computer screen more often is super important too. I find the more time I spend at the computer when I am in that kind of mood, the worse I feel, and the more I get wrapped up in my own head about it.

Meditation is definitely not a bad idea. and yes, stay off the adderall. it will only make this worse, and once you've gotten over it, and readjusted to life without it (have patience with this please), you will probably feel better than ever. The most important thing of all is taking care of the real root of the problem, and I think that if you are concerned that adderall will give you a heart attack, that probably is at least subconsciously the thing that keeps you from being able to dismiss this notion. Without any logical basis for thinking you're going to die, it should be a lot easier to shake it off. And I assure you, without the adderall, there is no logical basis for that worry. People really don't just die for no reason.

You don't have to be paranoid, you are absolutely going to die. The only connection that has to your palm reading is that when you unexpectedly pop off like everyone always does, you'll have wasted a potentially significant amount of your limited time staring at your fucking palms.

y0303, as a man with a bad heart, I understand the realism of the fear of spontaneously croaking. But you almost seem to be using the palm-life-line-death thing as a scapegoat for your anxiety, which you have had longer than you've had this particular concern. If you were feeling OK in general, the life-line thing could easily be shrugged off as superstitious hogwash. Keep off the adderall, that is the primary thing to do here. Amphetamines will seriously exacerbate your anxiety and mood swings. Hard. You have to stop using them; especially if heart health is concerning you. They can and will give you palpitations at the tail end of use - I've experienced it and it sent me into a mental crisis for a few days.

i use a small amount of adderall daily, but i recognize that it is tempting to abuse it...are you on prescription. if not, listen to what these guys are saying....or i would suck it up and tell your doctor about whats going on. better safe than sorry.

but if the lifeline thing is worrying you, i had a friend in korea who read palms, and she said in most circumstances the broken line represents a major change in your life....so that could be anything...

so theres at least the occult reason to stop worrying.

hope you get better.

edit: i also had worries about heart palpitations before because of the meds, went to my doctor, ran a bunch of pulmonary tests....essentially your anxiety may very well be the root cause of the palpitations. I cut caffeine out of my daily routine for a few weeks and the palpitations were gone.

lol what exactly were you expecting seeking help on an electronic music board

seek professional help. 'dear WATMM am i mental?' - that's like asking a board dedicated to lard if you have an eating disorder. seriously. talk to someone who knows what the fuck they're on about.

The fact that our pharmaceutical industries delve out amphetamines is comical to me. Amphetamine in any dose over prolonged periods is not good.

Yo303, take a walk outside. Go somewhere, do something new, get shoes on and run for as far as you can for no reason, do something... but if this persists, go see a doctor. Stop all meds or supplements, drink water, and walk slowly.

Stop taking speed, WATMM

Exercise, work, meditate. We all have too much time to concern ourselves with stupid shit we made up to concern ourselves with.

Some really good posts,

I guess my biggest fear is that this sudden obsession with the lines in my palms are delusions/hallucinations, but i like the idea of this being a weird manifestation of my anxiety.

I think this whole thing also means i have way to much free thinking time and my brain is just making up stuff just to keep itself entertain, i'll definitely try to find some kind of project to keep me busy.

Might be a mild amphetamine psychosis triggered by you suddenly stopping the adderall.

Personally I'd look for councelling, the psychosis will pass (if that is the case) but the anxiety attacks might not go away by themselves.

Just out of curiosity; was the adderall self prescribed?
