Joyrex J9 loveliness

Recommended Posts

Yeah,

http://www.discogs.com/Caustic-Window-Joyrex-J9/release/19315

It has two tracks on it. I don't believe it fits on my record player which is why I haven't played it. I heard before that it was limited to 303 copies and released in 1993 but supposedly it was limited to only 300 copies. Mine is a bit worn and doesn't have the original sleeve but I thought it was worth framing due to its uniqueness.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

Doesn't fit on your record player? Why wouldn't it?

The original sleeve is just a polysleeve, so no loss there (except for the sticker that sealed it).

Wait a min

Is 303 picture thing melted into the vinyl with grooves over it

yes and no, it's a picture disc which is technically not vinyl but a thick mylar. people say that picture disc audio quality sucks but since most picture disc releases are exclusively on picture disc (like analord 10 and this) it's pretty much impossible to compare

Well I can't really remember. I think I tried it on one of them and it didn't work correctly, but I could be mistaken. The sleeve and sticker do look nice though.

It isn't perfect, but it is good enough not to be immediately noticeable or distracting.

Except both Joyrex J9 and Analord 10 both have regular vinyl releases and are not exclusive to their picture disc formats...

oh had no idea, did they come out at the same time or did they do a regular vinyl version later ? Would it be safe to assume that you own both versions? If so does the picture disc sound noticeably worse?

Actually, there were 3 versions of Joyrex J9 (they all came out at the same time if I remember correctly):

Joyrex J9ii w/ popping gum (900 copies)

Joyrex J9ii w/ blue Rephlex shirt (100 copies - also known as the "Rephlex Disco Assault Kit")

Joyrex J9i (10" picture disc) (300 copies) - also, "Humanoid Must Not Escape" was exclusive to this release until the 3xLP Caustic Window Compilation came out on vinyl.

Then, it was reissued the same year (with different labels) and if I remember correctly, 2500 copies were pressed) (FYI - this is the version I have for sale in the Record Crate)

As for the picture disc sounding worse, I have never dared play it due to it's rarity, but other coloured vinyls I have had sound noticeably worse than regular black vinyl - I know it's been discussed at length on here as to why, but I don't recall off the top of my head why.

I would imagine its the materials used and the manufacturing process.

Did you notice what is etched in the runout groove on your Joyrex J9i? "THE ACID THAT FELL TO EARTH" - a reference to "The Man Who Fell To Earth", the David Bowie movie, and which samples from the movie are in Caustic Window tracks.

Richard was so creative way back then...

No, I didn't. Well, it's pretty creative to name your songs after viruses although it is a little passive aggressive.

Richard supposedly did that so when the Analord tracks were (eventually) ripped to MP3 and distributed illegally, they'd set off anti-virus heuristics based on their names.

Why would a virus name a file after itself though? Wouldn't that be like robbing a bank and announcing your name on the way out?

Back then, filenames could trigger virus alerts - recall this was back in 2005ish, before most anti-virus also scanned the contents of files instead of just names.

go tell all your friends. wait, no. wait until i get a record pressed and have something to sell.

Richard hasn't been releasing because he was busy managing the notorious "Flame" virus which infiltrated Iran

He coded it singlehandedly years ago and has been upkeeping it lately. It's encoded in DrukQs if you know how to use Knuth's Euclidean sorting algorithms and advanced Fourier Analysis
