This thing would be an amazing polysynth.

Just get a MIDI-hub that can split incoming notes and distribute to 4 different channels, and it is.

hm what do you mean, like a box with 5 motorfaders? or something like Lemur..?

i mean, the look of the interface is not so important imo, it's the MIDI stuff under the hood which is what this is about....

in the video, the faders and sound sources at each end are controlled via MIDI from a Machinedrum... BYO physical interface :]

not sure if I understand... does this picture imply that you want to use a box like to control the app?

because this is easy:

on MIDI channels 1-5 (A4 tracks 1-5), CC 20 = sound A, CC21 = crossfade, CC22 = sound B.

or that the app itself should be contained in a box like this? I can see the appeal of it, but this would limit everything a lot.

you could tape the iPod touch which hosts the app to the back of that Kenton controller if you're into the illusion of a "hardware-only" morphing thing.

I can recommend MIDIpal for all sort of MIDI hardware tricks like this: http://mutable-instruments.net/midipal

seriously considered getting a midi pal just for ease of use without the need for a computer to do tricks with hardware, you recommend it?

I'll just leave this here:

is something you're developing as a potential iPad app?

i think you should leave the interface exactly as it is right now. skeletal black & white. looks awesome.

both of those videos make me very jealous. shit! is the first one preset morphing? 2nd one sounds more semi random automation.

they both do essentially the same..

currently the app works like this:

- you send a backup from the A4 to the app. (A4 OS does not respond to requests, so you have to do this manually)

- the app then assigns 2 sounds to each track, one left and one right, and the fader interpolates

- whenever something changes, the 4 sounds & the FX settings are combined into a Kit sysex message and sent to the A4

- the kit overwrites whatever kit is stored a its position in the A4, and is loaded by the A4 instantly (if you send the kit to the currently loaded kit's position)

- this happens at a rate of 60 kits per second, allowing sweeps between kits & sounds.

the difference between the 2 videos is that in the first video, sounds from the sound pool are used, and each track is controlled individually via MIDI channels 1-5. In the second video, there's no individual control over each sound, but all 4 sounds from 2 kits are assigned to left/right respectively, so there's interpolation between kits on MIDI channel 1.

the cool thing is that you can change anything at any time... you can switch between modes (off/kit/sounds), assign kits for channel 1, or sounds for each channel, and move the faders, all via just a handful of simple MIDI CC messages:

            channel | controller | range:
         | | |
 mode | 0 | 24 | 0-2
 kit A | 0 | 20 | 0-127
 kit B | 0 | 22 | 0-127
 sound A | 0-4 | 20 | 0-127
 sound B | 0-4 | 22 | 0-127
 faders | 0-4 | 21 | 0-127

sequencing all this from a Machinedrum is quite fun.

But any MIDI controller will do.

love this piece to... pieces.

kept me company on the tour bus... filters are absolutely mental, works amazingly as a cv sequencer. I only wish it had more cv channels!

yea... tho dunno if the Kit Morph will make it into the app as seen here, gotta see, it;s likely gonna evolve into something else....

but yea, planning to keep the UI style reduced... skeletal is a good word :]

just finished up replicating the A4 sequencer in the app. It's running synced/slaved to the A4 and works with actual A4 pattern data... in short, it gives you MIDI sequencing.
