IKEA admits to using slave labor

yeah we've also rewritten history to say that if we didn't get involved in the war Hitler would have taken over Europe.

Another line of complete and utter bullshit. The Russians fought Germany on 100 fronts VS the US fighting Germany on ~10 fronts. If the US hadn't gotten involved, Hitler would have lost anyways due to his psychotic push into Russia during the winter. The Russians 'won' world war 2 if you really want to get technically accurate about it. But since Russia was immediately our enemy in the wake of the 'victory' we like to pretend we saved the world. It's pretty silly and sad that so many people still think World War 2 was a 'good war' and necessary. Also the idea that we killed 100,000 people in A-bomb strikes in Japan 'saved lives' is some of the funniest propaganda i was indoctrinated with as a youth. Pretty freaky how well that propaganda was worked though.

anyone with half a brain knows this to be true. But I think the more valid approach from a propaganda viewpoint is, without US intervening in the European theater, Europe=Red Communist slave labor camp. That's certainly how we pushed it in the 50's.

The whole "good war" thing fails in its ultimate moral ambiguity. But if you incorporate the immense threat a Nazi German war machine or a Soviet-bloc Europe would have resulted without US interference, things would certainly look pretty damn grim from an economic perspective. I mean talking about the Great Depression continuing in the US an "anemic" recovery rate, but we'd have essentially lost all of our major trading partners....and then consider the waves of harsh repressive anti-Communist tactics by the Soviets in their new satellite states.

Maybe it wasn't a "good war", but the alternative would have been equally as bad.

yeah, i guess it's hard to say how many people would have died if the US didn't intervene, but 65 million people died during WWII, that's more people dying in a 5 year timespan than any other time in the human race short of some sort of biblical natural disaster

Oliver Stone's new Showtime series starts with a 3 - parter on how Harry Truman was a war criminal, i'm pretty excited for it i think it's on in 1 week

haha i'd like a showtime series running through the presidents showing how they're all war criminals. that'd be really awesome

A while ago I saw a documentary about Henry Kissinger, detailing how he repeatedly and deliberately violated cease-fires and employed brutal tactics in Vietnam, as well as being the brains behind the American side of the Cold War during 8 years, and how history was rewritten to make him look like the peace-seeking diplomat that brought an end to the Vietnam conflict. He got a Nobel prize for that, I had always heard Kissinger's name in high regard, and maybe because I'm not 100% familiar with american history I never imagined how much of a dark side he had and how much of a spin history books take to make him look like a genius of diplomacy and peace.

Was it The Trials of Henry Kissinger? It's amazing how they managed to turn him into some saint of diplomacy considering who he really was.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Also George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."
