I still like Reddit, but I never expected it to stay the same. I steer clear of most comment sections and only go there for the links.

i never got reddit. i was there like 5 times in my life and it seems like a drag.

I'm definitely done with the place, as I've deleted my every comment and my account. This thread is just my break up note, and hate note to the place.

Something Reddit is extremely well at articulating, is that the herd always despises creativity. Any real creativity, or anything that goes against the grain, is considered an enemy. The people will lash out like apes. Frankly, it's hard to believe. I'm not raving at the mouth here, more just amused.

You're right on the nose that it's totally lowest common denominator, reposted, stupid content 95% of the time.

Just find some smaller subs that are interesting and ignore/unsubscribe from the rest, especially the default subscriptions of /funny etc.

It's an easy way to waste time. I've been back to using digg lately because reddit doesn't load properly at work and imgur and most other reddit links are blocked too. Digg at least has interesting articles.

it's a little fanatical, and it's not super well written, but nonetheless the fact that those subreddits are allowed to exist is pretty appalling

I have never really found reddit to be very useful. Most of the things I'm interested in ( music, diet, economics, gaming etc. ) are usually debated much more in depth and more frequently on specialist forums and websites that are devoted to those topics alone.

if you don't like them, don't visit them. why is this so hard for people to do.

i still like reddit, but i'm unsubscribed from most of the big subreddits. i think r/worldnews is the only worthwhile one now, mostly cause it's strictly moderated.

It sounds to me that you've become what you claim to despise. You go on at length about the hipsters who have ruined reddit but you yourself are going on a message board complaining about how the site isn't what it was like when you were first posting there. No different than disliking a band when they grow in popularity

I like Twitter, I use it as a quick way for a laugh. That said - it's overwhelming as fuck, especially since I don't use it 24/7 with a smartphone. I have no idea how people follow more than, say, 30-40 people on that. Reddit is that x infinity imo.

I read reddit threads my geekier friends link to - there was an AMA with a dad asking his 9 year old kid (who was dressed incognitio as as spider-man btw) and it was funny, cute, and at times rather insightful. Another cool one about Sikhs was really interesting - some dude posted a pic of a female Sikh with facial hair and she actually wrote in why she doesn't shave and the dude apologized.

Awhile back I posted a couple times (one joke about a local 'indie" DJ in Austin most people can't stand was well-received) but after literally seeing downvotes on FACTUAL comments in the dubstep subbreddit I was like "this is fucking lame." I avoid it basically.
