I never could get into riot grrrl.

I've always felt rock has lacked female singers - I always get annoyed when I hear a song and expect either a falsetto or female vocal and instead some monotone guy yelling. Like the Killers, fuck that guy, he just sings the same note at different volumes. I can't help but suspect that such frontman are egomaniac assholes who can't let anyone else in the limelight.

Can't stand riot grrrl, but Bikini Kill is a much better feminist punk band (lyrically and musically) if you haven't heard of them.

I do like what Bikini Kill I've heard, tried to listen to Bratmobile years ago and it didn't do it for me (the name is awesome though) - I find riot grrrl admirable in ethos and all but I'm just so hit-or-miss with punk anyway.

Oh shit, I was actually confusing riot grrrl with Bratmobile. Bratmobile is the band I can't stand.

My girlfriend is really into all that stuff and has been for years. She puts a lot of it on mix CDs for me. I do like it to an extent but never enough to actually get a Bikini Kill album.

If we're talking all-woman bands, I reckon Sleater-Kinney are great

we haven't really posted enough cibo matto clearly

cibo matto work for me because they aren't totally consumed with broadcasting their female identity all the time like riot grrl bands and shit.

They just want to make quirky subversive sample-based music about eating. A+ in my book

also one of the few girl bands where adding more male musicians like completely diluted their original style.

Are Sleater-Kinney considered Riot Grrrl? They're quite a step above all of the others. She sings tunefully and they seem to rely on musical talent instead of Distortion pedals.

Thanks for posting that.

I was wondering that too, but they've usually had a male drummer

I'd count the breeders.

The slits had a male drummer too, but I still consider them a girl band. The dude wasn't on the cover of Cut, anyway.

I think they're associated with that scene, I'm not sure to be honest. I don't really know anything about the band except the drummer was also in Stephen Malkmus's post-Pavement band.

Here's a cool Breeders song
