The next William Basinski reissue is going to self-destruct after it's first listen.. it's going to be hella cool.

The next William Basinski reissue is going to be so high pitched that only dogs can hear it.

Don't be silly. There's pop music and then there's dumb shit like this.

that's part of the appeal of noise. the music is pretty dumb to begin with so the packaging seems like a natural extension to the whole thing. here's a record that came wrapped in boiling water to ensure it was completely destroyed

^^^ hope you got the original release because the reissue doesn't come with the blood and semen packaging which is half the fun.

i know of quite a few of these kinds of releases, i just have a hard time remembering the names. i actually did a noise release a while back called 'pay my bills' where instead of sending you a cd of music, i sent you a blank cdr with a link where you could download the music for free and a random unpaid bill which you were supposed to pay for me.

the guy who used to run self abuse records would put out some gnarly packaging. his solo moniker was called 'whore butcher' and on the cover of one of his albums was the picture of a woman murdered with a broom stick up her twat. It came with a pair of women's panties stained with shit and pussy juice. pretty ridiculous

wow, that's a pretty idea. And a nice way to showcase noise in a more smart packaging than the usual "blood and shat" art context.

I have only one release by hand, that features also a pretty dirty conception.

It was released by german media-cut-up group Column One and has the nice title: The Last One Is Dead

http://www.discogs.com/Column-One-The-Last-One-Is-Dead/release/495384

I bet they enjoyed a few inspiring dots from Jordi Valls, as the whole record is covered in the theme of extreme death happenings. There is one track explained in the linernotes inside the box being constructed from several death tapes and public documents (you can hear Bud Dwyers headshot and the sound of cutting up human bodies) they collected. One track features a cutup from a video with a man's death dued to a bear attack and his wife saying "be careful Bob" (which is also the locked groove on the last side).

The whole thing is extremely filthy, since you can play the white vinyl only after opening the dried rotten newspaper where the recordsleeve is in. The sleeve features some disgusting pictures of dead rotten bodies on the backside and everything is covered in an dry almagam of dirt, urin, faeces and sperm.

I never cleaned up my record, instead I got a CDR from a friend who has the same and cleaned it to digitalize it. It sounds very proper and does not even crackle.

Well I'm totally shelving my fart-infused wobble-core 7-inch record. I can't compete with this shit. I remember hearing how the infamous black metal vocalist Dead joined Mayhem after sending them a cassette packaged with a dead rat next to it. That seems fucking tame as hell on this thread.

The oddest thing I have for any music packaging is the Hafler Trio's Exactly As I Say album (Box wrapped in dried catfish, a packet of fjallagrös, and a small piece of lava from Rauðarfjall, Iceland, wrapped in cloth)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

they're not always sick.

consider this one: http://www.discogs.com/Slither-Burnt-Offerings/release/2724220

or this one: http://www.discogs.com/Runzelstirn-Gurgelst%C3%B8ck--Rudolf-Eber-Bock-Mist-Bock/release/538046

it doesn't mention it, but the sticker on the b-side covers the entire lp, so the packaging is actually part of the audio. there was another rudolph eb.er record which was packaged with, as he explained it, his dog's turds. some people however doubted they were from his dog and actually his.

i remember merzbow had a record which his label hard-wired to a mercedes benz. to buy the record, you also had to buy the car, which was in terrible condition and played the record loudly with no way of turning it off. it was limited to 1 copy (obviously)

more recently, the residents announced they'd be selling their ultimate box set for $100,000 which comes in a 28 cubic foot refridgerator and even throw in a mystery item for $5 million

Sweet idea from The Residents- I wish I had the money to afford. Weird idea to use a fridge to hold up their entire catalogue.

I once had that R&G records as rips but at that time they were not easy to get and therefore expensive. That 7inch could be interesting, I remember it sounded actually weird with a lot of jarring violinstrings played and cut up.

The merzcar- was it a legend or real made? I heard several things- being a fake and being real.

A friend of mine who is a renowned label owner and musician in Hamburg (Uli Rehberg or Ditterich von Euler-Donnersperg- maybe some know his sadly closed shop Unterm Durchschnitt for experimental records) once told me he visited the staalplaat store in The Netherlands in the 80ties and seen there a used toilet. It contained a tape release mounted inside the toilet ground so you actually had to demount it with getting your hand down the toilet sink. Obviously limited to 1 copy and even for that era horribly expensive.

I would like to see it on discogs- just curious how it looks like.

as far as i could tell it was real (i only saw pictures from the press release) but i suppose nobody took it seriously (or wanted the car) because the next thing i knew, it was no longer available. and i suppose that's how the rumor that it had all been fake started

Suprised no-one bought it.

How's the mileage?
