He's also not as good as many left-wing apologists have painted him (well Oliver Stone anyway). Rather odd unique government honestly - irrationally sympathetic to governments like Iran, utilized oil profits the same way Gulf States have, and a lot of his quasi-socialist nationalization efforts have been contradictory and inefficient, particularly when he forcefully things like multi-story buildings (which then became skyscraper squats) or private supermarkets (which now sit empty). There are issues of censorship and state propaganda - nothing like brutal crackdowns or violent oppression - but corruption and dictatorship-esque traits nonetheless. The poor love him but at the same token I've met non-rich middle-class exiles who literally left before they lost all of their financial assets by local government officials. He didn't ruin their economy or anything. He's not a hero but he's not a evil despot either.

I hope it helps the state of Venezuela overall, that's about all I can say.
