Ahhhg. This thread is right up my alley, but I'm just so...fuck-everything-I'm-gonna-do-something-to-forget-I'm-supposed-to-do-something lately.

But like Twiddle, Zoe, and Braintree were saying, electronic music often focuses on timbre and shit so theory stays fairly well roped-in for the most part (or gets wicked out there, but not in a consciously theoretical way like jazz, unless you're Squarepusher).

Pretty much all I do these days when I sit down with my guitar is go all over the damn place by varying keys, scales, modes, etc, but when I write an electronic tune I'm almost embarrassed by how simple I usually make it.

I need to get back to writing shit that doesn't repeat the same chord progression the whole damn song. Fuck. Just...fuck.

hey Limpy would you be kind enough to make a musical analysis of this track???

i mean, in this FM ocean, there's something very common amongst all the songs, i dunno, my instinct and lack of knowledge led me to believe that they're mainly jazzy/blues and stuff, played in synths, but i'm really not that sure, and i would like to know so that i start studying it cause it's the kind of sonority i'm after...

not asking about timbres and fx and stuff...

The beginning uses quartal harmony (notes stacked in fourths).

first four chords are (if my guitar is tuned correctly) : CFBbEb DGCF CFBbEb BEAD

......*listens to rest of song*

I mean, there's alot to tackle in here lol

What section(s) are you talking about when you say the sonority you are after? And you said "songs" so if there is a common thread you are looking for them post some other songs and like time indicators for what section you're talking about.
