Member of pop band AKB48 publicly shaves head and begs for forgiveness after revealing she is in a relationship

The thing I find most strange about this story is that she shaved her head as an apology for having a boyfriend. WTF? How does baldness factor into this?

Other than that... all cultures have weird quirks. Ms. Spears shaved her head cos US pop culture eventually made her go completely insane. This girl slept with her bf and got shamed by her own pop culture. At their roots, they are equally retarded non-issues outside of the culture that hatched them, and they seem to cause massive amounts of distress to the people involved. Can't say the same sort of crap doesn't happen in private arenas, cus, you know.. they're private. And shaming does indeed happen in the world of families, businesses, small towns, etc... but celebrities sure do make this stuff seem casual on a new level. It doesn't make sense to blame an entire culture at once IMO (that's like blaming the world for having humans - the world doesn't have a voice with which to respond to such accusations, and neither do cultures), so I'll just say... if you find yourself in a scenario where shamefully shaving yourself bald seems like a solution, you are no longer in reality, and you may ignore the rules of the game you find yourself in.

And on the flipside of the shamed celebrity is the celebrity without shame; see the Lohan thread and how we collectively treat people who refuse to follow any sort of culturally-laid-out public rules for their roles as celebrities ("she's a role model for children, HOW DARE SHE ACT THAT WAY!" etc).

It's all a phony mindfuck, and it makes me glad I only get news of these things through watmm.

It's a common symbolic gesture within Japanese culture of 'cleansing' yourself and starting anew. It's essentially a non-verbal way of showing that she has sins she feels the need to repent, essentially shaming herself.

Britney shaved her head bc she was trying to get out of drug testing wrapped up in her custody battle (before she lost her kids I think?).

Yeah any time u see a hot chick/porn star shave their heads it's drug related 99% of the time.
