there is a "troon" on every forum in some way shape or form

that is to say someone who comes across"different" for a myriad of reasons,writing style.ideas,taste in art,whatever.

it's amusing [and predictable/typical] to me to see the herd/group mind have a knee jerk reaction,gang up and pounce on basically anything or anybody who does not fit the established invisible perceived "norm"of the forum.

The rejection of troon/redruth is especially ironic considering the innate theme of this forum and the people/musicians it centers on are indeed outcasts,nerds,geeks and left field thinkers.

Relegate him to the new release subforum to post an announcement about every single obscure album that has an electronic element to it and rate it 9/10 - make the most use of his "social experiment"

pretense is tiring for all parties. maybe he doesn't post so much cos he doesn't get that negative attention anymore.

With all due respect, I disagree that it's a herd mindset.

I don't think he/she/it/they is a left field thinker.

I think Troon is either a spambot or an attention seeker or an attention-seeking spambot.

(If there ever was a left field thinker on this board, it was Sup. )

That whole "social experiment" thing they posted was just unnerving.

Before then, it seemed like every Troon tread that wasn't a new release was some pseudo-intellectually vague topic that they would reply in, over and over, just to increase their post count.

There's nothing wrong with having deep thoughts or wanting to share or talk about them in a public forum. It's just annoying when the person posting about it doesn't seem to be a real person... or that they are intentionally trying to get a reaction to being seen as such. It just gets old.

Yeah I wouldn't say he was a bad bloke, just seemed a lot of the time he was more concerned about struggling with presenting himself as a unique identity, which ironically made him seem more depersonalised and not like a real person. When I spoke to him personally he seemed well meaning and friendly enough, I haven't got anything against him personally. It just seemed he struggled to find his place here in a way that seemed a bit discomforting, it started being a bit too self-conscious about being this enigmatic internet persona thing, honestly it just seemed he was caring about his presence on this forum far too much. Becoming the New Releases specialist probably helped establish a sense of identity with him that made him feel unique actually, I'm one of the few people that probably thinks he wasn't a spam bot or employee made to post in this forum but just found a role he was comfortable playing.

If he ever doesn't come back, then I wish him well and if he isn't in the best health, I wish him a speedy recovery. If he ever does come back though, dude just be yourself! We might be online but we're actually a pretty close knit and personal community, deep down you seem alright and if you just interacted with us socially once in a while rather than limiting yourself to posting new music and (I mean this in the nicest way but at the same time I should be honest) unnecessarily grandiose and naively sweeping philosophical statements, you'd probably fit in nicely here. JBC.

but the straw that broke the camel's back for me was including BOTH Global Goon freebie albums on best of 2012. Parastrophics? No where to be found. At that point, spambot or no, taste had been forever compromised in favor of listing as many lesser-known releases as possible.

He seems to be sulking about the lack of impression he made on peoples consciousness. Maybe being on his deathbed was his final way of saying goodbye to everyone. He hasn't left the legacy he would have liked. He's spammed the crap out of that New Releases forum. As Aserinsky eloquently put it, he must have thought the New Releases was his true calling so he spammed it up with filler which is pretty annoying for anyone who wants to look in there.
