beerwolf
If I had to play a track to explain the brilliance of Sir Richard James to somebody, I think it would be this. It's great to live in an era or history I could hear such a beautiful record. Thank you. beerwolf
So thats a no then. so far.... If you sat someone down in your shack and try to explain Aphex to them would you really put on Fenixfunk 5? Interesting. Something so perfect about A bubblebath though Edited February 24, 2013 by beerwolf Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/77802-one-of-his-greatest/#findComment-1958317 Share on other sites
Guest isaki
yes, I think fenixfunk 5 and vordhosbn would "throw them right into the deep end" of AFX. both tracks convey his drum work and also the soft synthy sounds he does. ziggomatic v17 is a good example of that too and what do you mean "that's a no then"? markedone
I totally agree, A Bubblebath 1 is the perfect, holistic-aphex track.A few years ago I would to burn mixtapes for me and mates, car use or whatever. That track started the first cd and everyone was well into it. Perfect starting point for putting the Tuss on the next cd.. Adieu
Yeah, Compson and I were talking about this in CHATMM not too long ago. I stated that I thought Fenix Funk 5, Synthacon 9, Ziggomatic v17, and Mt. St. Michael + St. MIchael's Mount are his best tracks. Someone else commented that they were over-produced garbage. Then, we later both agreed that AB1 is one of his finest works. XTAL is up there for me as well, but it doesn't effect me the way it did when I first heard it anymore. I need Richard to blow my mind with some new material. Guest HokusPoker
One of the tracks I'd put on is the Sci-Fi Staircase remix, it's a perfect example of many of his qualities. The beginning puts them greenhorns in their place!!! Same with Fenix Funk. Suffocate Peon
Fenix Funk 5, really? That seems like a random choice, I've never thought that highly of it, i just find it okay. I'd choose Rushup I Bank 12 of all his acid tracks... I think when trying to convince people of Aphex Twin's quality I play the obvious Alberto Balsam...Flim, Pancake Lizard Edited February 27, 2013 by Suffocate Peon Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Suffocate Peon's signature Hide all signatures art photos characters (new) photos 2 photos 3 Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/77802-one-of-his-greatest/#findComment-1959550 Share on other sites
Guest HokusPoker
Well, convincing somebody and explaining the brilliance are two different things. Avril 14th would get a certain target group excited, but I wouldn't choose it to explain his two decades long relevance. I think "Xtal," "On," and maybe "Girl/Boy" are up there too. His earlier work definitely has something magical about it. My friend liked but never really got into the more "famous" Aphex songs (Come To Daddy/Windowlicker) but when he heard SAW 85-92 it instantly became one of his favorite albums. The thing with introducing RDJ to people is knowing their preferences - makes you realize how many styles he's covered over the years. I remember I sent a FACT mix to my wife at work for her to listen to and she emailed me saying she really liked the second song. It was Caustic Window - Cordialatron. I was like "yeah that's one Aphex Twin's aliases from the early 90s" She was really impressed, I think anyone who begins to truly grasp the quantity and quality of his discography will understand why so many people are such massive fans.
