It's pretty idm knowing that in a year there will be a thread about this years thread on how the world didn't end last year.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

Paralympics opening ceremony, with Orbital featuring Stephen Hawking

Hahaha!

Why this is IDM:

Stephen Hawking opens the track, describing how the Large Hadron Collider (previous most IDM winner) is a triumph of human endeavor, then we have Orbital, playing 'Where is this going' featuring a sample of Hawking. All three of them are wearing those little headlights on their heads. Then we have an awkward mash-up into a cover of Spasticus Autisticus by Ian Dury. Awkward as in, quite a jarring change in tone. But hey, its the Paralympics so why fucking not. And then awkwardness is very IDM too, as is people dancing in wheelchairs (which is something

).

Groups of men arguing in earnest about whether and when it is ethical to comment on the appearance of actresses.

Very IDM!

That's going to compete in the 2013 contest. This is the 2012 contest..... No exai. And no J-Law.

Some of you guys have been stuck in your back to the future cars it seems.

I'm gonna be lame and nominate the same 2 things I always nominate.

Bioluminescent Trees (They could replace streetlights! Come on!)
mg20827885.000-1_300.jpg

Slime Molds (As IDM as it gets, and it would make a great compilation)

All of the info you really need is in one of Root5's posts.

Edit: Fuck yea, Quaggas, Mudskippers, and Lungfish.
I'll also nominate the Japanese Spider Crab for good measure.

And no, it's not extinct.

Bioluminescent Trees are cool but music-wise they're pretty psytrance... and who the fuck wants to be affiliated with that?

Psh, they're not remotely psytrance. That light pale blue glow is more along the lines of Casino Versus Japan downtempo, Micro-house, or ambient glitch like early Oval or Julien Neto.

Psytrance..... the NERVE... Pshh.......

I'll repeat that things that happened in 2013, or before 2012, or things that haven't happened yet are all fair game. The date is just to keep track of which competition it is.

Last year I started of calling it the 2012 competition but people got upset and said "Too soon". This year people (reasonably I might add) can't help but interpret it as being restrictive to the previous year.

Maybe I should do a new numbering system. This is the second competition I've organized, so I could call it Root5's second MOST IDM competition but that overplays my role. Going back in time, this may be the 7th or 8th or 9th MOST IDM competition we've done. Does anyone remember?

This is what I remember, but I'm probably hugely wrong. Perhaps and older member could correct this a bit.

2013 - This one

2012 - Incomplete Skyscrapers

2011 - Nikola Tesla

2010 - Large Hadron Collider

2009 - Antarctica

2008 - Black Holes

2007 - Beards? Docking?

2006 - Deep Sea Creatures?

The WATMM hive mind making the universe fold back onto itself.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

beards was what won initially, but the comp was dedicated to the clearly superior deep sea creatures. analogue wings then compiled one dedicated to beardstep, not long after. i don't think it was a year later. maybe there wasn't one in '07

Was DSP/Beards definitely in 2006? For all I know, that one could have been 2007.

I remember a half-hearted docking comp, but I don't know if that resulted from a IDM bracketology, or if that was from spontaneous enthusiasm on the subject.
