Bumped b/c great thread and I have long obseesed over iTunes play counts. Didn't check for awhile b/c I lost seven years of play count data in late 2011. New playcount data since Jan 2012 I just looked at for first time in awhile and saw sheer ridiculousless. It appears I have been in near exclusive musical relationship with Autechre since that time.

 

From back in the day my top 10 plays (I think all over 200) included no IDM and was as follows: The National - Boxer, Apartment Story and Mr. November, Bob Dylan - Thunder on the Mountain, Missiissppi (from Bootleg Series 8) and Not Dark Yet, Waylon Jennings - Don't Think Twice It's All Right, and Rainy Day Woman, Arcade Fire - Wake Up, and Neighborhood #1.

So, at work I like to listen to a lot of Atom TM, Boards of Canada, Grischa Lichtenberger and NHK^Koyxen.

 

At home I think this would be more ambient, Team Doyobi and Autechre oriented, but I have no statistics from there. Partly because I listen to most of them from vinyl.

OK, so before you criticise me about the Armin van Buuren/trance stuff: my counts are contaminated with the stuff I play while training. And while training, yes, a lot of it is the trance stuff you see in this list. Need to have 4/4 trance in my ears when doing my high intensity interval sessions on the concept2 ergometer.

Also, the playcounts have been reset half a year ago, so a bunch of favs/often played are still missing.

Also2: spiral staircase has two mentions. so def the secret winner...
