Nice one!

Funnily enough I found +/- in a 2nd hand record shop two days ago.

That's the one that you're meant to move around in the space it's playing in order to change/hear the different frequencies.

My local music weirdo did me a copy of it about ten years ago when I wanted the most 'WEIRD/DIFFICULT' thing he could think of when I was a young and naive avant fan. 1000 fragments is pretty choice too.

Anyway, tangentramble over!

Shit. new page.

Funnily enough, I just listened to Ikeda's entire discography about two and three days ago! Such cosmic coincidence.

I bet CFBDSIR_2149-0403 has something to do with it.

Most people vote without looking at the thread, it's kinda useless to push.

But anyway "Ulillillia losing year after year" has got to be into next year's poll

Ikeda played in my hometown about a year and a half ago. Luckily, the power went after 15 minutes and then I left.

I must admit Mr Squee, I am curious as to which artists you enjoy listening to.

Jus' cuz I've seen your similar withering comments about umpteen different electronic artists on here.

Genuinely interested, no homo sarcasm.

I enjoy lots of electronic music. I'm just not into artsy music, spastic IDM that sounds like something from the mid to late 90s, and all that jazz (plus, I like making fun of IDM because it's like a religion to most people). And hey, there's nothing wrong with a healthy amount of cynicism. I'm usually not a fan of anyone, but I might like some of his/her/their tunes but rarely all of it.

Also, I edit 90% of the music I buy to my liking.

This is some of the best electronic stuff I've heard in a while...

If an 808 kit with homeless spirit sneaks into any of the winning compilation tracks, i'll be happy

Regardless of what happens, I am still going to have a section with Homeless/808 sounds!

not liking things™

I'm also fascinated by this.

I used to master bootlegs for my own listening purposes. I also used to speed up rap music and listen to it super fast, but the foobar plugin I was using crashed my computer. I should render and resave the tracks in audacity if I want to keep doing it.

In what way are you editing tracks, Squee?

I'm sorry for derailing the thread. I didn't mean to do that.

When I edit tracks it's usually to remove parts of a tune that I don't like. For instance, I bought this really cool Isreali rock tune from 70s a couple of days ago, but the track gets completely ruined by this one part that keeps repeating where the pianist goes fucking nuts. And I don't know who mixed this tune (if anyone actually did mix it) but it sounded like shit. So I removed the parts that I didn't like, stitched the parts I liked together, re-EQ'ed the track voila. I now have a tune that's actually worth listening to. There's so much kick ass music out there but it gets completely ruined by bad decisions - according to me, at least. There are probably people out there who think the parts that I removed are the best parts of the tune.

But let's take James Blake as an example. His stuff it pretty catchy, he has an interesting voice, and I kinda like his stuff... but he has a tendency to completely ruin his tracks by slowly letting them mutate into walls of noise. "

" is a pretty good example. Beautiful tune, but imagine you're out having coffee with someone and "Wilhelm Scream" starts playing. Oh, cool. Well, four minutes into that track you'll be begging the owner of the cafe to put a bullet in you and your friend. That tune gets completely ruined by how it evolves. It's unbearable to listen to. So yeah, I've edited that one and removed all the noise, added some strings here and there to give the tune some more atmosphere and a bigger sense of space - plus, I've added some echoes, delays, and reverb to the snares to create some variation.

I think the best example I can give, though, is Radiohead's "

". I've never liked the drummer from Radiohead because the drums always sound a bit too sloppy for my taste. So I was thankful when they released the stems for that tune, because it gave me a chance the remove the drums (thank the gods!) and add a couple of things (cello, piano, and various fx) myself:

Sure, some people will say it's blasphemy and I'll say suck my nuts :)

Sometimes it's the other way around. Sometimes a track is too short and then I loop parts of it. Karen O's "

" is brilliant but way too short, so I've extended it:

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that I make playlists for a coffee shop in my town, so that's another reason why I edit tunes.
