I'm entirely blocking out all news/info about the USA as of last week and for the foreseeable future (including usa-themed watmm threads lol).

As of today I've made 40 full orbits around our sun. Perhaps the best accomplishment I've made this year otherwise is finally land a decent job.

On top of that, I'm taking this entire week off to catch up on a couple of Udemy courses I've been putting on the backburner, as this will hopefully spark the beginning of a major long-term project I've been planning the last few months. But for now I'd rather not elaborate further until I actually have something to show for it.

Also, I think Vimto is my new favorite soft drink. I tried Irn Bru for the first time about three months ago as well, and I think they taste pretty similar. But Vimto I can actually buy in bulk at the local halal market, whereas Irn Bru I had to order via Amazon.

feeling good got two weeks off from work for christmas and new years break. Gonna try to go 24 hours without internet on one of the days. Will report back if successful, but have a feeling that I am going to be looking like this after a few hours in, withdraw from drug of internet and relapse:

When You Hurt Yourself, You Also Hurt God': Christian Artist Explains Dramatic Painting of Jesus With a Heroin Addict | CBN News

I am currently radioactive. Consumed 100mCi of Radioactive Iodine -131. they brought it into the room in a lead pill box. had to put on rubber gloves. when the tech gave it to me she moved to the other side of the room and instructed me not to touch the pill but to throw it back using the container. once i took it i had to immediately leave.  "We have to take precautions but you get to eat it"  lol.

this is the best case scenario. so, i'm stoked. it's good news. the dose is determined by the results of the scan i got earlier in the day. so, if the scan showed a bunch of big bright spots i'd likely have to have a 3rd fckn surgery. so, little dots on the scan = best case scenario and treatment w/radioactive iodine. been a long year and having this shit in the rearview for now is best holiday gift i could've gotten.

and when leaving the room the tech, called me 'hun' which felt nice. it's my 6th appointment there and she's a charmer. i have a follow up appointment on my birthday in a week so hopefully good news on that day as well. it's possible i'd have to get a 2nd RAI dose at some point but pending follow up etc.. we'll see.. fuck it. for now enjoy the upside. fuck cancer.

just bought a 2TB Kingston Portable SSD XS2000 in Mediamarkt for 115€ and the lowest price I could find everywhere I look including online is no cheaper than 150 and that's online so I would have to pay shipping...

dollar is 0.96 euros now and it was around 0.91 during the entire year... also I'm using revolut so I can transfer usd from the account where I get my payment direct to usd in revolut so I don't have to pay 0.02 cents per dollar fee that my bank charges for an exchange... now in revolut I can exchange from usd to euro without any exchange fees cause revolut is cool and transfer those euros to my portuguese bank without any transfer fees as well... literally impossible to save more than this... victory!

used to have a driver license 20 years ago. It got voided in 2016 because I drove too fast once and did not attend the prescribed special seminar for novice drivers back then.

Summer last year I decided to get it back, which took ages to figure out what to do bureaucratically. Had to pay some money to the bureau, and catch up on that seminar, as well as pass the theory test and driving test…

As of today, I did done all of those things. Now the last step, mailing the paperwork to the bureau and wait for them to mail the license 🙌

My review of Hello Kitty Island Adventure is basically receiving standing ovation on Steam. It almost feels like I've made history.

my lucid sleep paralisys is gone, I think forever, it's been more than a month now, I had them every fuckin night... that goddamn dark evil presence grabbed me by my waist and lately it would do it so tight that it would actually hurt... one thing I realized with time was that if I stopped fighting it and chilled out I would actually wake up but lately that didn't work... almost sure it was because of the quetiapine I was taking, my brain was not really tired but the pills would put me to sleep too fast so the heavy drowsiness would make me feel I couldn't move... something like that, I actually asked chatGPT and it told me it made sense...

flying to Arizona today for job interview tomorrow, am very excited as it is a great opportunity if I secure the position and also am hankering for a change of scenery, always wanted to live in American southwest and also take an extended break from the northeast.

Am gonna be playing the legendary Aphex track Cock/ver10 at full volume on my phone during the breakfast meet and greet when I walk in so they know I am the man for the job and am to be taken seriously

Both optical and rheological properties contribute to viscosity judgements when comparing real liquids using vision and touch

Jeffrey Martin† and Matjaž Jogan†

Does the opacity of a liquid, or the way it reflects light, affect how viscous it appears? Would the perceived viscosity change if we touch the liquid? Viscosity of a material, or how it flows, produces a rich stimulus that reflects the material’s rheological properties, which can be independently inferred by touch or vision, or by combining modalities. In addition, the material’s optical properties convey other cues not dependent on rheology, such as colour or transparency. How these multisensory cues form stable percepts of viscosity that drive behaviour remains unknown. To shed light on this mapping, we conducted a series of psychophysical experiments in which observers compared the thickness of real liquids. First, we show that perceptual discrimination tends to scale in proportion to stimulus viscosity. Next, we show that optical properties such as transparency and opacity, although not related to viscosity, influence visual judgments of thickness. This bias, driven by appearance, is reduced when observers combine visual and haptic information. Combining information across visual and haptic senses improves discrimination only over a limited viscosity range.

Found out I lost 3 lbs (1.36 kilos) over the last month after my visit to the doctor yesterday. Guess I made the right dietary decision by cutting out soda and going primarily vegetarian. (Will likely go back on a pescatarian diet from here on out though, since I currently have high triglyceride levels and omega-3s are supposed to help with reduction.)

Congrats.  If you still have a hankering for some soda and you like sparkling water, I'd recommend SodaStream or one of those setups where you can make it at home.  We've consistently used ours for 10+ years and I only have maybe less than 5 sugary sodas per year.
